Adrian Ward's latest book, 'Leadership in Residential Child Care, A relationship-based approach', is available only from the publishers, Smokehouse Press of Norwich, at www.smokehousepress.co.uk.
Adrian was born in London and now lives in Norwich, UK. His first degree was in English Literature, after which he trained in social work and worked in residential child care, including leading a therapeutic children's home in London for seven years. The new book draws on his extensive experience in residential child care as a leader, and later as an educator and consultant.
From that leadership post, Adrian moved into academic work, teaching social workers and other child care workers for many years, firstly at Reading University - where he established the influential MA in Therapeutic Child Care - then at UEA in Norwich, and more recently at the Tavistock Clinic in London. He has now moved on to follow other interests: he has returned to literature and writing, and recently completed an MA in Life Writing in the School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing at UEA.
Adrian has written and edited several books, and contributed to many others, such as his two chapters in 'Broken Bounds', a collection on the influence of the psychoanalyst Donald Winnicott, including one on the 'English Riots' of 2011.
