If like me you followed the sonic explorations of Mr Sherwood's throughout the 80s and 90s you will be happy to see some of his works being re-edited. I think the reason On U Sound closed down was because not enough people would buy their music (but everyone and their mums were being inspired by it all the same). I never quite understood why people would not buy some of those awsome plates, judging on the quality and creativity of the production work, and the artists.

Outstanding tracks in this collection include the masterful Autobiography which is a joyously skanking Reggae number, but also the gem Quante Jubila sung by the awsome Prince Far I - and a jewel showcase of the inventivity of Adrian Sherwood's oustanding production skills.

The On U Sound recording studios in Walthamstow, London, and its roster of in-house musicians inspired by the Jamaican studio bands, must have been a buzzing heaven of creativity and this collection proudly proves it. Adrian Sherwood came to create it with a dual Punk and Reggae/dub perpective which shows in the breadth of musics and pathes played on this collection. Get it - you will want to know more about On-U-Sound.

HASH(0x8fb1f474) out of 5 stars Essential Pressure 1 Sept. 2000
By MJ Vercoe - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Pre-1988, and the acid house explosion in England, the only sounds that stood out from the post-Joy Division gothic dirge or soulless 80's pop came from the On-U stable.
Adrian Sherwood was a genius; the music he produced still sounds as fresh and avantgard today. He gathered a serious group of musicians, giving life once more to artists such as Prince Far I, Bim Sherman and even Lee Perry, who had all somewhat fallen by the wayside.
This collection is absolutely essential, not only for lovers of reggae, but also for lovers of hip hop and house, as many original ideas can be found here.
This LP is a blueprint for the music of the next millenium.

HASH(0x8fb1f4d4) out of 5 stars Adrian presents... 28 Aug. 2002
By Adjua Dubb - Published on Amazon.com

This album struck me first for the price, then for the artists, Bim Sherman, Prince Fari, African Head Charge, I mean I was floored. Its a great combination and compilation of the stable of artists that On U was pushing. This album is a great intro, into On U and offers a myriad of sound, texture and splendor of reggae and percussive riddims. I enjoyed it, while not a big fan of AHC and some of the experimental dub, I still found very intense tunes on this CD. Standout cuts: Quanti Jubila, You are the One and the Dub. Nice to have to learn about On U.

HASH(0x8ff6842c) out of 5 stars Good rasta for the price. 19 Mar. 2003

It's a few cuts I like on this CD, but for the money, I can't complain. But on the other hand, everybody has different taste, so the cuts I don't like, you might love. Now it's not the best I've heard, but it's not the worst neither, but for the price, ... go for it. ... At least you can hear some good tunes. Out.
