Product Description

Product Description

Crochet offers great scope for creativity because, with only a hook and a ball of yarn, any kind of fabric can be constructed, from thick and heavy to fine and lacy. 'Adorable Crochet for Babies and Toddlers' is full of designs for appealing garments that are soft, comfortable, and very stylish. All the designs are given with variations of stitch, trim or detail alongside. The patterns also include colourful toys, ranging from the simple to the more ambitious. Traditional blankets and throws are given a new spin and they will become items to cherish, long after the baby has grown. The crochet techniques featured include a wide variety of afghan squares, marvellous textured relief stitches that look like ribs and cables, bobble patterns, lacy edgings, multi-colour stitches, and some Irish crochet. All the designs are based on the combination of a few simple stitches, which are illustrated in detail at the start of the book for beginners, or as a reminder to anyone whose skills are rusty. Instructions are given both as stitch-by-stitch explanations and as charts, using international symbols. This allows the reader to choose their preferred method of explanation, or to cross refer for checking purposes.

Adorable!! 22 Jun 2008
Format:Paperback
A good baby crochet pattern book that covers a wide range of items BUT not all that easy. Some patterns are complicated to follow because of the shaping but that does away with the shapeless crochet usually found in books. Although complicated the bar shoes turn out fantastically and look great on little feet! My friends love this book and I am constantly asked to make things for their little ones from it! Most patters suggest Rowan yarn but work well with other yarns.

There are more than 22 projects in the book - of these 2 are very 1980's, others would benefit from a change of colour, but most are up to date. The patterns include: 5 hats, 1 dress, 5 blankets, 4 cardies/jackets, 2 socks/booties, 1 shoes, 1 sandals, hot water bottle cover, scarf, bag, heart sachet, gorgeous teddy and rabbit patterns, building blocks, and a tomato ball (I put a kinder egg capsule filled with beads inside to make it rattle). There are also a few pages on basic crochet instructions for the beginner.

There are 16 designs in this book: 4 of which are lovely and I would recommend, 2 of which I might make with some modifications and 10 of which are hideous or old-fashioned.

on the whole, I would say £7 for 6 crochet patterns is fairly reasonable.

The book is well laid out and includes the usual basic info about stitches (though this is more of a reference rather than a beginners' guide). The instructions are in English as opposed to US abbreviations so double crochet means UK double etc.

Given that there aren't many decent up-to-date crochet books out there at the moment then I would recommend this book, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before we get more appealing 'debbie bliss' style crochet books to replace these...

I love the projects, they look great.

I have tried one project so far "Dancing Shoes", and am utterly frustrated by inacuracies in the pattern. You need to be a VERY skilled corcheter to pull this off because you will need to figure out the correct pattern for yourself!

If anyone knows where I can find ammendments to this pattern (and any of the others if they are all this wonky) please let me know!
