5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Buy 5 Jan 2012
I have just received my new Adonit Writer and am absolutely thrilled with it. I have been looking for the 'perfect' ipad keyboard case for a couple of months, read every review and studied all the pros and cons of most of them, and this one, I believe is the best on the market at the moment.

It's very well put together, is simple and stylish and has some very slick additions such as the magnetic keypad board which means that the screen can be positioned in numerous angles and still remain stable and sturdy.

It can be comfortably used on your lap or on a desk without toppling backwards and the magnetic sleep / wake sensor is brilliant.
It also very sleekly holds itself shut, again using magnets, so when closed, it's a very neat, stylish and surprisingly light case which protects your ipad well too.

The only thing that may be more difficult for some people is that the keyboard is quite small, although as a touch typist, after a few minutes of practice I was able to use it without any difficulty at all and am typing this review on it after very little practice, so I guess it's like anything in that it just takes a little getting used to!

The keys themselves have just the right amount of resistance and a great feel to them, so if you like me couldn't get on with the touch screen ipad keys, then this really is the answer.

For me, it was quite a risk buying a product that had only been reviewed by one other person so far on Amazon, but having researched other online reviews (which are all pretty glowing), I finally took the plunge and am thrilled to bits with my purchase.

A great buy which I think is excellent value when considering the quality of the product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best keyboard... 6 Oct 2011
By Ducret
Combined with the magnetic latch and auto turn off and on it is quite amazing and I keep getting questions about it in the office. It looks real smart and the build quality is really good. It is also very practical because you use as well on a table as on your lap which is not possible with many others. My only complaint is that the edges of the keyboard should be chamfered and they are too sharp for absolute comfort.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad at all..... 12 May 2012
The Adonit iPad keyboard is as other reviewers have stipulated. It looks smart and is of good build quality. It is however (and obviously to be expected) not as good as a 'normal' keyboard. I wholeheartedly agree that the keyboard takes a little getting used to and the edges when the keys are depressed are quite sharp. For this reason i have knocked off a star in the rating. Still, i can type much faster with the keyboard than i can on the iPad itself (though i tend to frequently miss a letter from words when typing - not something i usually do when typing on my Mac).

I had originally ordered the very similar Zagg keyboard from another seller (which did not turn up) and i would be interested to see how that compared.. However that is not an option now. I did read though that Zagg have marketed their iPad 2 case as an iPad 3 case and that people had to fiddle with the case to get it work properly (padding too thick and magnetic strips did not work so well). How true that is i dont know; the Adonit keyboard on the otherhand works perfectly fine without any fiddling!

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing - flawed design 21 Jun 2012
Verified Purchase
When I bought this it was after extensive reading of reviews and agonising over which was the best product. The Clamshell was lauded as one of the best out there, with lots of comprehensive reviews. So imagine my surprise when I began using it, and found the proximity of the right-hand shift key to the up-arrow extremely irritating, resulting in the cursor jumping up one line into the middle of the last sentence as I happily type away, screwing up my last sentence completely!

With correct touch-typing technique, any letter on the left hand side of the keyboard means you use the right-hand shift key - touch-typing also means that you don't have to look at the keys, and in fact with high accuracy you don't even have to look at the screen, you can look wherever you want :) I'm a pretty fast typist (80-106 wpm) and I found myself for days on end constantly making this mistake. It was so irritating that I stopped using the Clamshell completely and it has sat there on my shelf gathering dust ever since. I am really stunned that the designers didn't foresee this or notice it during testing, it's a fundamental design flaw.

I think a lot of users will not experience this problem at all, hence why I've given it 3 stars, because I think my experience as a touch-typist who uses both shift keys in a fast flow of typing (meaning that I don't notice the up-cursor destruction of my last sentence of text, for a good 5 seconds or so) may be the exception rather than the rule. Just be aware of the cluster of keys near the up-arrow - Shift and Enter.

Aside from that, the physical design of the clamshell is nice, and I had no issues with setup or use of the actual stand/case or bluetooth aspects.
