Bought this to upgrade my laptop from v7. I also use CS4 on my PC and this latest Elements brings layer mask functionality and edges closer to its big brother (I don't know which version this functionality appeared in Elements but it was after v7). Nothing much extra in the Organiser and the interface is the same old drab colour; Adobe really could do better. For the money I'm happy but, depending when masks appeared, it might not be worth the upgrade from v9. And when, oh when, will we get a 64 bit version to use all that extra memory?

I owned Photoshop Elements 8 for some time and never really enjoyed using it, however I needed to upgrade so chose the Upgrade version for 10, which may not have been the easiest route. I loaded it fairly successfully but since some elements of the program would not work for me I had a lengthy exchange by keyboard with a very helpful chap with an Indian name, who managed to get everything working well. I must say that 10 is infintely preferable to 8 and I am enjoying all its attributes. I think in future I would take a friend's advice and not buy upgrades, but go for the full original program. However, my upgrade is working perfectly so perhaps a few hours of angst was worth it.

I currently run PSE 7 on my Vista 32 bit desktop Vista but I was going through my library and checking out which things were different with version 10 of PSE on my Windows 7 64 bit Desktop and found that it supported the Raw RAF files from my Fuji Camera as well as my Raw files from my Nikon. I do have Photoshop CS4 on my Windows 7 desktop which is 64 bit which I run Portrait professional studio 64 alongside and even as a plugin to CS4. But what makes this different is that when you have a lot of digital photos to download onto you desktop you can even tag them as you download them. Not something I was aware of before. I Use Lightroom 3 where you can download and use a workflow to develop the raw images as you go as well as what you get with tagging but you cannot be as creative as you can with PSE 10 because PSE 10 carries the creativity that CS4 has with it along with various other ways of speeding up your workflow in getting your images from one workspace to another without destroying them. For working with Jpegs it is just as efficient as 7 with perhaps a little more process going directly to your graphics card than the process being taken up by the CPU. I have an old 8800 GTX Nvidia graphics card in my PC which uses Cuda, if I was to upgrade that the balance would shift to even less processor time taken up.
The good thing about tagging is that it can help with so much these days, especially if you social network or even have a Flikr account you are given more control over what and how you share your imagery. Everything is there on the screen to help you and if you are already familiar with Adobe products the workflow is something you are accustomed to and find remarkably easy. The same keyboard shortcuts available to all the photoshop range are all available on the Elements. Some shortcuts although not listed are still available. If you can get accustomed to using the element product range upgrading to the full size versions is less daunting and you will get into good habits very quickly. When I can upgrade for £10 cheaper than buying the full version especially when the full version comes with no manuals I believe that fate has taken a step forward. The best thing about Adobe is that you can Try before you buy and the product is fully functional for 30 days so you can get the full benefits of the trial and if the workflow actually works for you. Corels product has strayed from the origonal path that JASC were on so much that you have to think every time you startup the interface. I know that I can start an Adobe product and not be lost on the openning interface. As a power user I can recommend this one. Great for the snap happy and social networker.
