When you attempt to install the Premiere Elements from the five supplied disks, the install rejects and the disk is rejected as soon as it reaches 51% download. No matter what you do or how many times you try to reinstall the program it stalls at exactly the same place. You are then presented with a page of meaningless (to me) gibberish as to what precisely has caused the problem but no helpful way - unless you are a computer wizard - which I am not - of either understanding what has gone wrong and whether there is a possible workaround.
Please be mindful if this happens to you, that you will need to disregard the installation disk 3 and download the Adobe Elements Premiere program (trial version) directly from the Adobe website. They also supply a Support Download Installer for this purpose and, once that has been downloaded to your computer, you can then proceed to download the Premiere Elements program itself but, be warned, If you have a slow broadband speed like me, it is going to take a few hours. Once the software has downloaded you are then prompted to insert the ID number which came with your newly purchased product and, all being well, it should then install without further difficulty just as it should have done had the supplied disks functioned correctly in the first place.
Adobe are very much aware of these issues and, my argument is, if they are not able to replace the disks in the packages with error-free ones then they should, at the very least, include some reference as to why they are unlikely to load and offer some proper suggestions as to how these issues may be resolved.
If you have purchased or perhaps are considering purchasing this package from Adobe then, I hope this short review will be of some help to you and hopefully save you hours of hair-pulling and teeth-grinding while in the process of trying to figure out a way of installing it.
Premiere Elements - Not a bad package, but not terribly stable. Lots of options and gone are the silly limits on the pixel size of stills being imported for use in the video which was always a pain in V7. However even running under Windows 7 64bit on an Intel i7 6 core processor with 12GB RAM it falls over far too often and is often frustratingly slow even with normal (PAL 576 line) definition material. It still takes quite some time to render larger (18Mp) stills unless you scale them to fit on import, but this seriously reduces the ability to zoom and add motion whilst maintaining adequate image quality. HD video is handled OK, if slowly. Playback without rendering beforehand is very jerky and if you have incorporated any effects (even simple transitions) forget it.
All in all, not quite what one expects from Adobe.
Photoshop Elements - Still quite an effective package, not hugely changed from V7 with the exception of some new guided tools. The ability to get rid of the awful "Organiser" front end is however a vast improvement. Still no real support for 16 bit colour depth which is a downside given most modern DSLRs have at least 14 bit colour depth.
Compared to version 9 Elements seems to have a better layout and the guided edits are useful if somewhat limited. The organiser much improved from previous version. The tabbed interface is organised into 3 sections these are Edit, Create and Share. From there, Edit is further divided into sub-Tabs for Full, Quick and Guided Edits.
Premiere Elements 10 also offers a tabbed interface separated into Project, Edit, Disc Menus and Share.
In conclusion I would say that this is a great software bundle from Adobe, which is reliable, easy to use, and good value for money.
