I bought this manual because it was project based. That is, via a number of projects, it covers all the possibilities within PSE 8. The value of such an approach is that you understand what is possible if you are relatively new to PSE. For example, I had no idea you could take a straight picture of a flag and make it look like it is blowing in the wind. Compare the with a reference book where you are not really given guidance as to what is possible. So...
The book is generally good. Although some of the instruction sequences are hard to grasp and some are actually incorrect. BUT, each project is accompanied by a video which I found was absolutely invaluable. Use of both book and videos is the way to do this. I used my own photos rather than the ones provided to give me a bit more incentive. And this mostly worked fine although a lack of my own RAW files hindered me in that respect.
I achieved all the objectives but could never remember what I did or, sometimes, why. But the point is I now know what is possible AND I know where to go to remind me how to do certain things. What I now need though is a reference manual that explains every feature of PSE and why I would use it (over apparent alternatives).
Buy this AND get a good reference manual. Then you will be well away.
