If you are looking for a step by step manual this is NOT the book for you 14 Sept. 2014
By Kathryn Harmon Gmehlin - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
In almost every chapter you are told to do x y and z, but on z was spoken about in the pages preceding the exercises. I find this book extremely frustrating as I am constantly looking in the index for information that is just not in this book. I have to waste time watching Adobe TV and HOPE that the person will actually discuss what I am trying to find out how to do x and y. The adobe "Evangelist" talk fast and way WAY above your level. These will add confusion. I suggest TrainSimple or Lynda.com - good instructors, good pace, clearly speaking about how to toggle though tools and options from the menu, right click menu, icons or shortcut keys. It is done in a way where the commands for the opposite platform (PC or Mac) doesn't muddy the waters when taking notes on how to preform a task in the platform you are using. This book is a challenge to my sanity - there is SOOOOOOO much missing in the instructions that as an Instructional Designer I am really dissatisfied. Why skip X & Y if you want me to do X Y & Z? This is not how most people learn - speak- show -tell -SPELL it out!!!!! If you are looking for a step by step manual this is NOT the book for you. Now off to the local book store for the MISSING MANUAL so I can figure all the missing steps out!
Beyond frustrating 24 Oct. 2014
By Meagan S. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I find this book to be extremely frustrating for the beginner. I have it for an online class I need to take to fulfill my degree and night after night I struggle to actually learn anything about Photoshop. The book will walk you through each step, yes, but it doesn't explain why you are doing what you're doing nor does it address exactly where to find tools at times. This method makes it difficult to commit the process to memory as it simply walks you through each step. The easiest steps are those that show you a picture of what the tool looks like, but that only seems to happen half of the time. Also, the exercises at the end of the chapters aren't descriptive and don't challenge you (except for when the directions are not clear, in which case you are definitely challenged).

If you are looking for a book to learn and fully understand the Photoshop process, I do not recommend this one. I would not buy this book again. Save yourself the frustration and try other resources out there before dropping your money on this book.

This book covers the basics of photoshop. It gets you familiar with the tools, ui, and panels. It is not super indepth regarding mastering the tools. It is meant as a good way to get familiar with the basics of the software. It is a decent place to start if you are not familiar with the software.

Forced to get this book for a class. I wish they used Classroom in a Book instead (which you should buy instead if you're not mandated to get this one). The image qualities are terrible and the book is just confusing (and I know how to use Photoshop).
