Seventeen project-based "lessons" take you through every aspect of Photoshop. The book starts with the basics--the revamped interface, selection tools and working with layers--and then moves on to more involved projects like retouching, using the new vector shape and clipping path features, advanced layer management and special effects. Each lesson begins with a clear introduction and finishes with a brief review section which is a good way of assessing how much you've learned and whether you need to go over anything.
Anyone who is, or wants to be a Photoshop pro must eventually tackle colour management and two lessons are devoted to this difficult subject. "Setting Up Your Monitor For Colour Management" examines the principles of colour management and shows you how to calibrate and create an ICC colour profile for your monitor using the Adobe Gamma control panel. "Producing and Printing Consistent colour" deals with proofing images on a CMYK PostScript printer and creating colour separations for commercial printing, there is also a chapter devoted to spot colour printing. The remainder of the book deals with producing Web graphics using ImageReady 3.0.
While it lacks the depth of some of the other Photoshop tomes this is probably one of the most effective courses there is for beginners and intermediate users. --Ken McMahon

I was looking for something that was easy to understand with simple step by step instructions. I am glad to say I have found it! I have used Photoshop 6.0 for a short while but I was looking for something more. This book has given me everything I need to improve my skills without having to start from a basic level, having said that, it is an ideal tool for the newcomer.Well laid out, excellent examples and the lessons are very easy to follow. A must for the beginner and intermediate user alike. Go buy it!

Adobe Photoshop 6 Classroom In A Book,

This review is from: Adobe PhotoShop 6.0 (Classroom in a book) (Paperback)
Excellent book. A must have if you are new to Photoshop (as I was) Most of this book also applies to Photoshop 7 as well. Easy to follow instructions and broken down into managable chapters, which each take approx 45 minutes to an hour to complete. This book does not baffle with jargon but explains new terms well. What it doesn't do is assume you have heaps of experience already. Rarely have I found a reference book so easy to use.Highly recommended.

Simply a dream book for a dream Program,
By ben@benlambe.co.uk (London) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Adobe PhotoShop 6.0 (Classroom in a book) (Paperback)
If you are new to photoshop, this book is for you. This book follows on from the other 'classroom in a book' line. It is very concise, and well written with lots of pictures to show you exactly what you should be doing, and is divided up into tutorial chapters instead of boring you to death with long explanations that tell you what you don't even want to know. You will pick up photoshop very quickly while reading this book, and be producing high quality artwork in no time.
