I was considering booking a 2 day course at a training centre, that were looking to charge me £800 for the two days! Then I noticed this training DVD. I'm so impressed! I've basically learned everything I would have on the course for a fraction of the cost.

This Core Training DVD is one of a series covering the Adobe creative suite elements.
The chapters included in the training DVD are: Introduction; User Interface; Navigation; Set Up Your Page; Setting Up Your Document; Placing Text, Tables, Interactive & Flash, Using Images, Creating Graphics, Edit Type & Graphics; PDF and Printing and a Case Study of a Magazine layout.
I'm not sure who this training is actually aimed at. Some of the instructions and explanations seemed very basic while others seemed to skim over important items as if it was assumed that it was known. Since I came in knowing absolutely nothing about how to work InDesign, there were times that I felt a little confused but as soon as I started playing around on InDesign it all started to make sense. If you have used InDesign and know how to use some of the features, I still think you'll get something out of this DVD but not as much as if you are a complete beginner.
The trainer (Mark Schlesinger) has a pleasant and calming voice that's easy to understand, especially since he doesn't speak too quickly. I've noticed that others thought he was bland but I thought he was the perfect host to the DVD.
The price may seem a little high for a training DVD but since the whole thing is over 6 hours long, you really are getting value money. I also used this as part of work and the cost of the DVD is definitely less than if you went on a training course.
As the spec states, this product works on both PCs and Macs which is great if you use a different computer at home and work.
It does take a while to work your way through the whole DVD but I really have found it worth it. I don't feel that I know everything there is to know about InDesign but I do now feel that I have a really good basis for going forward and learning even more. The other Adobe products also have Training videos in this series and I'm definitely thinking of the Photoshop version so I can learn how to use that next. Definitely recommended.

As someone who works with assisting students who use InDesign, keeping abreast of the latest developments is a necessary task, so this latest edition, covering CS4, was a welcome addition, and one of the best software training DVDs I have come across.
Using a British presenter, something which most of the Adobe training guides out there generally don't use (normally featuring an annoying sycophantic American Adobe employee/trainer!), and set out into neat clear chapters, with easy-to-follow steps, the basics (and the changes from CS2 to CS3 and CS4) are explained enabling you to pick up how to use what is rapidly becoming the industry standard desktop publishing software. Highly recommended.
