I have to admit, I am quite new to the art of web design and graphic designs, but having recently decided to attempt to have a go, using Adobe's flagship software, I am quite impressed. I found this book to be a very useful tool, as it not only contains all of the software images that are required, for use with said applications (not included, I might add), but it also contains a step by step guide of the various tasks, like designing a webpage with Dreamweaver, or drawing with Illustator, creating fantastic graphics with Photoshop and also learning to create your own videos with Flash was great fun. One thing I would add, regarding this classroom book, if you want to learn a creative art, from start to finish, ie Dreamweaver or InDesign, then I would suggest getting that application's classroom book, as it is far more indepth. Overall, this book is easy to understand, and the lessons are fun to learn, however, don't expect to create a website soon after, as you will need to learn far more than this classroom book will teach you. I would definately recommend this book to any budding creative designer though.

I know Photoshop but all the other parts of CS5 are new to me. So I thought this classroom in a book would give me a good overview of what CS5 can do. Well it does exactly that. My only complaint would be the number of errors. In a way they sort of help. The errors keep you thinking and on your guard. For the cost of this book coming form Adobe I would have expected it to be better. My suspicion is that they have lifted the lessons from the other books in the series on specific software components within CS5 to make a more generalised overview book. The errors are generally relating to filenames of the lesson projects or references to previous lessons that are not in this book. There have been no errors relating to actual tasks they ask you to perform. I am running CS5 on a iMac. The book always gives both the Windows and Mac version of the controls. The book comes with a CD containing all the files you need for the lessons. So my conclusion is that this is very good book but could do better.

I am not completely surprised about this book because I read the other reviews. However, as one of the few books that profess to give a grounding in the whole of CS5(.5) DP I took the plunge anyway.
I have only worked my way through part of the first lesson and I am totally frustrated. As someone new to Creative Suit I can't see who this book is aimed at or what I will eventually get out of it. The lessons dip in and out of things with no real pattern or structure and it is frustratingly unclear. For instance, I now know how to move a window in a perspective drawing but I have little idea how to create a perspective drawing in the first place.
The first lesson suggests it will take between 1 and 2 hours, I have spent at least 3 hours and I am only half way through the first lesson! Most of my time has been spent on the various programs help files trying to understand how and what the book is asking me to do.
Maybe if you are familiar with a previous version of Creative Suit it might bring you up to date with new features but if you are a newbie prepare for frustration. The one thing I will say for the book is it is forcing me to learn the individual programs I am not familiar with, but only because it is forcing me to read all of the help files!!!
