5.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't put it down! 24 Feb 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
From the moment I started reading this book on my Kindle I was hooked. I cannot express my feelings as I was reading, but I'll try. This book left me tearful in parts, laughing in others, and frustrated as I wanted a hero like this!

I cannot praise this novel enough. I find it difficult to find very many books in this genre, that, in my opinion, is PERFECT! But this is.

Just a two things I would have wished for: that the book didn't end so abruptly, and I wanted an epilogue to see if their child was M or F.

Although I have this on Kindle, I am also going to buy the paperback for my book room. I am now looking to buy other Carla Kelly books to read.

I gave it 5 stars, but its a 5+ easily.

4.0 out of 5 stars Charming regency romance 9 April 2013
By Marshall Lord TOP 100 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
A charming and reasonably well written regency romance. The story begins in 1816, a year after the battle of Waterloo.

Sally's life had collapsed when her late husband was framed five years ago for a crime he did not commit. She is struggling to keep body and soul together at the start of the book, having spent almost her last farthing travelllig to a home where a lady's companion was required, only to find that the post is no longer available.

Stranded and penniless Sally is wondering what to do when retired admiral Sir Charles Bright sees her and takes pity on her.

His sisters have been pressing him to marry but the idea of life with any of the candidates they are trying to foist on him seems unbearable. Something about Sally makes him offer marriage to her instead - initially as a marriage in name only.

Sally is astonished but in no position to say no, and soon, to their mutual surprise, they start to build a life together. But Sally has a secret about who she really is - and if it comes out, the feelings growing between herself and Charles may soon be crushed ...

Amusing if implausible story with some good humour and enjoyable characters. If you like regency romances and are not too bothered about plausibility or a wealth of precise historical detail you may well enjoy this.

3.0 out of 5 stars A sweet story 4 Jan 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
A sweet story, but rather predictable. It probably could have been reduced in length and been a bit more punchy.
