I purchased this item for my partner following heart bypass surgery. After the operation he was only able to sleep sitting in an upright position and returning home to bed, not having a mobility bed of any kind, I thought this would aid him in gradually getting used to sleeping on his back again. It has worked very well and I would thoroughly recommend this for anyone else in a similar position.

I didn't buy this because I was recuperating as many of the other reviewers have done. I bought it because my bed has no real headboard and I like to drink my first cuppa of the day in bed. After 25 years of making do with a folded pillow for a backrest, I bought this. It's excellent - folds flat and lives under the bed when not in use, easy to `assemble' and disassemble and extremely comfortable ... and cheaper than buying a bed with a proper headboard.

Having this sort of support easily to hand is great. You never know when you are going to need it - but you most likely are going to... If you end up sick in bed, this is great for sitting-up support. My mother had a heart valve replacement some years ago and finds it uncomfortable to sleep lying flat, this rest gives the support she needs without needing a stack of wobbly pillows. Lots of situations. The SmitCare bed support is well made and sturdy. The material is a thin strong nylon. It is height adjustable. If you need to lock the height adjustment in place you can use plastic ties or string. It's easy to clean too.
