Product Description

Mike Harding

"She sings with integrity, talent and verve"

"One of Brit folk's most vibrant and forthright new young talents"

"..this mature and varied set matches painful laments against the occasional humorous song...Bricks and Love is a self-compose ballad based on a true story. It's the most poignant new song I've heard this year."

CD Description

BIOG Lucy Ward is a 21 year old singer-songwriter from Derby. She plays guitar but considers her voice to be her first instrument and has been performing regularly since she was 14. Her sets are an eclectic mix of traditional and modern folk interpretations, interspersed with her own songs. There is a natural and easy sound to her music that is brought to life by expressive performance and a breathtaking delivery. Lucy has the ability to still an audience with the strength and purity of her voice, which she uses to great effect on the unaccompanied songs that sprinkle her set. She is developing into a fine songwriter and a consummate performer who wows her audiences with her genuine, sparkling personality and a stunning voice. Reaching the Final of the Young Folk Awards in 2009, Lucy has subsequently played shows with many top artists in the genre, including Seth Lakeman, Chris Wood, Jim Moray, Tams & Coope, Phil Beer, Dave Swarbrick, Nancy Kerr & James Fagan, The Oysterband and O’Hooley & Tidow. She has also performed in her own right at festivals and clubs all over the UK. After playing at the likes of Priddy, Broadstairs and The Big Session she crowned the 2010 festival season with a stand-out performance to a capacity audience in the Sabrina Tent at Shrewsbury. A deal with Navigator Records was signed at the end of the year and her debut album recorded shortly thereafter. Produced by Stu Hanna (of Megson), it will be released in June 2011 during a period of frenzied touring activity. LIVE 35 dates in the diary (including various summer festivals) and more to come. Album launch show takes place at The Slaughtered Lamb in London on June 14th. Wonderful 7 Aug 2011
By Tomo
Format:Audio CD
I love Kate Rusby and Cara Dillon, and this young lady is up there with them. We saw her live at Priddy Folk festival and I bought the CD on the spot. She is in the traditional folk style, able to sing unacompanied with a fresh and light touch, and her own compositions are excellent too. She can certainly sing, the more I listen to this CD the more I like it. The production is great, not overpowering but supportive. Cant wait for her next release.

What a great album 14 Jun 2011
Format:Audio CD
What a great great first album. I love the natural voice of Lucy that is used across a variety of styles. A real crossover between folk and pop, I love this folk revival, this is up there with Kate Rusby. I just can't stop listening, next album please Lucy.

If you are of a sensitive and reflective nature, I defy you to listen to 'The Fairy Boy', 'Alice in the Bacon Box' and 'Bricks and Love', and not have tears streaming down your cheeks. This CD is worth having for these 3 tracks alone. I'm not a follower of any particular musical genre, but I do appreciate beautiful and moving singing - and like 'The Unthanks', this soft, straightforward, poignant singing pierces the heart. Both Lucy Ward and The Unthanks sing about love, loss, and death, and the tragedies of a hard life - in other words the important things in life - which nowadays, are all too often overlooked and undervalued in our frenetic, materialistic 'consumer' lifestyle.
