Where I Stand. This list doesn't include his greatest hits or compilations or the new live album that has been released this year,
Live from Schlachthof 1991 as it has songs from his first three albums on it!
So to this offering. It's a great follow up to Word of Mouth and the recent EP-style, Where I Stand albums (available as an MP3 album on here, but you can buy it on CD from his website). I was lucky enough to see him live in Bristol in 2009 and he opened the set with my absolute favourite Roachford track, which I am overjoyed to see on this album (as I have been trying to hunt it down ever since i heard it!). That track is The Doctor and is a really upbeat, rocking pop song that has a killer riff and shows that his voice is still going strong. I have played this track so many times already and it is fantastic. There are some really great tracks on this album that really hooked me in on the first play. Addictive, Complicated, Saving Angels, Feel so Good and Seize the Day all had me from the start, and then the other tracks grew on me as I played the album over and over. In fairness, there is only one track I don't like, which considering this is a 13 track album is pretty darned good! Just to quickly mention - if you own Where I Stand, there are two tracks lifted from that album and put on Addictive and they are Complicated and Wishing U Knew.
This is Andrew Roachford at his best. There is a really good blend of pop, soul, r'n'b and ballads running through the heart of this album. His voice is still amazing and the way he can change key and style within a couple of words is amazing (check out The Doctor to hear what I mean!). He has a crystal clear voice, and you can hear every single word he sings. This is why I have followed him ever since he burst onto the scene all the way back in 1988! Showing my age there..........not good!
People inevitably have their favourite albums, and this is probably my second favourite Roachford album (behind Permanent Shade of Blue - but only just!). And that is a real compliment considering how many superb albums Roachford has released over the years.
If you are a Roachford fan then you know what you are getting - a top quality album, and you will want to buy this right now! If you ever liked him, but drifted away from his music, then this is the perfect album to get reacquainted with him. If you have never heard him before then I would recommend giving him a try - he is an amazing talent, and an artist I love to follow.
Finally, if you ever get the chance to catch him on tour - he is touring with this album in October and November of 2011 - go and check him out. He is one of those rare artists who really know their craft. He gets everyone really involved and you can see that he really enjoys entertaining his fans. I can't wait to see him live, play this album more and i am already desperate to see what he comes out with next!
