2.0 out of 5 stars Gui Boratto may not understand how to be a DJ., 27 Nov 2007
By Bhai Good (Denver, CO, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The overall quality of the tracks on here is excellent. It's just too bad that Gui doesn't know how to execute a good mix. After hearing so many great remixes and original productions by Gui, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this album (Strangely the music on here by Gui is the least impressive), but disappointment is what I felt when I played this one out. Had this album been unmixed, I'd have given it three or four stars because I'd love to spin most of these tracks. If you're going to make a moody, minimal techno mix, you've got to make the mixes count, because the mood will be ruined by a lackluster mix. Lackluster mixing is exactly what you'll find here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gui scores a trifecta in the electronic dance world., 7 April 2008
By Doctor Trance (MA, United States) - See all my reviews
3 aspects of electronic music where few artists/DJs ever excel at all 3: releasing, remixing, mixing.

1) Gui Boratto's has proven that since his extremely popular 2005 track Arquipélago, and on into his highly rated 2007 artist album, Chromophobia, he has mastered the art of producing and releasing quality minimal techno.

2) With a boatload of quality remixes over the past two years (most recently Adam Freeland's Silverlake Pills, and Will Saul's Sequential Circus) he has proven to be a quality and sought after remixer.

3) With his new gem of a mix, the inconspicuously titled Addicted Vol. 2, Gui has now proven that not only can he compile two straight discs of stunning tech house, but he can expertly deliver it, mixed DJ style.

Gui refers to his music in an interview for Mixmag magazine as "melodic techno" and there is certainly an abundance of luscious melodies played here through both discs. This is a techno mix of the most sophisticated kind, and the quality we've come to expect from Gui in his own releases genuinely transfers to his knack for choosing the most optimum quality tracks around.

Very few DJ's or artists these days will be at the top of their game in each of these 3 aspects. You will always have the immensely popular touring DJ who barely remixes anything and releases very few noteworthy tracks, or the top rated artist who bombs when he tries to take on a DJ mix CD release. For now, we have Gui Boratto, skilled expert of all 3, and I'm so glad I stumbled upon this little known CD series. It's one of the best electronic mixes of 2007, and as it's come out so late in the year, it will certainly top my list for 2008.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't mix??? This is amazing!!, 11 Dec 2007

Had to comment lest people are deterred by the other review of this album. For me the surprise is just how great this is,eclipsing chromophobia and nudging out villalobos ,ben watt and magda for possible mix of the year.....if you aren't pounding with supermayer's "two of us" by the end you need to be kompakted pronto....truly lustrous
