Actor-director Griffin Dunne made his filmmaking debut with this ethically ambiguous and not-very-funny movie about a pair of jilted lovers (Meg Ryan and Matthew Broderick) who conspire to break up a relationship between their ex-sweethearts (Tchéky Karyo and Kelly Preston). Part classic screwball comedy, part nightmare along the lines of Martin Scorsese's After Hours (in which Dunne starred), part tribute to Hitchcock's Rear Window, Addicted to Love is all over the map and seriously hampered by the sheer, unwarranted nastiness aimed at the innocent characters played by Karyo and Preston. The DVD release includes production notes, original theatrical trailer, optional widescreen and standard formats, and optional French and Spanish soundtracks. --Tom Keogh, Amazon.com

Although not a commercial success, Amazon's reviewer could not be more wrong about this. This is a fab little movie, very un-Hollywood in its cruel charm and brave for someone like Ryan to even attempt given her status as the queen of feelgood romcoms.

Hilarious in parts with some truly great lines ('The only way she's going to be with you is if a spurt of semen projected her across the street and through your window!')and charming performances from the main leads including the excellent Tcheky Karyo (last seen in Luc Besson's 'Nikita')

But this is Ryan's movie and suggests a far broader range of comedic skills than most people give her credit for. Watch it on a Sunday afternoon and feel better about the week ahead

OK, so I'm crazy about her...does it show? ;-)

echoes of when harry met sally but funnier and the leading man can act. Buried in the middle is a pretend kiss scene which is sheer magic.

It may be a filmmaking debut, but Griffin Dunne manages to create a reasonable film. Although some might consider it as not that funny the situation is that which we come to expect from 'twisted' America. With Meg Ryan and Matthew Broderick performing well on a less than average script. Considered a screwball comedy this falls short of my expectations. Apart from the audio and visual quality that DVD's offer, this is not worth the extra money.
