The VideOh! DVD Media Centre takes video from an analogue source--a camcorder or VHS tape for example--converts it to a digital format and imports it into your computer as MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 digital video files. Alternatively, it functions as a PVR (Personal Video Recorder), allowing you to record directly from television (using the built-in tuner) onto your computer's hard disc. This functionality also gives you many other benefits including the nifty ability to pause, rewind or instantly replay live TV.
Once on your computer, Sonic's MyDVD video creation software (included) allows you to edit and manage your video clips. Depending on your hardware (and how you want to play the material) the software can then transfer your finished videos to disc using your existing CD or DVD burner, either as a conventional DVD or as an MPEG-1 VideoCD (playable on many home DVD players).
Picture quality is very high--the VideOh! DVD Media Center can record video at full screen MPEG-2 (720 x 480 at 30fps) D-1 broadcast resolution as well as at various other resolutions. The included software allows you a full range of creative options, including the ability to edit video and add special effects, transitions, overlay effects, photos, music, titles and more.

ADAPTEC VideOh DVD Media Centre,
By Guy Viegas (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Adaptec VideOh! DVD Media Center USB 2.0 (Electronics)
Within a few minutes I found myself copying a Video onto my hard drive, whilst checking what I can do on the encoding side of things. Very comprehensive piece of video converting kit, and perfect for creating your own media centre. Very easy to use, and handle.Only downpart is the time it takes to copy a video, as that could be a little better, but nevertheless, once copied, and then burnt onto DVD in MPEG2 encoded format, the quality makes it a very worthwhile piece of equipment to add to your PC. A must have

WOW!,

Did exaclty what it said on the box!Converted hundreds of videos to DVD over the Summer as well as some of my fav. T.V. shows! No problems at all. If your computer meets the minumum requirements it should run like a dream! The bundled software was all good, all very easy to use. Did exactly what it said on the box at pretty good speeds. Worth the money!!!

Approach with caution,

I bought this item to replace my aging Miro DC30 video capture card. I used it for a couple of hours then put it back in the box for good. The install was easy and the bundled software looks idiot proof, but the quality of the video capture was terrible. Using an s-video source it dropped frames all over the place and the resulting video also had several severe encoding errors. My guess is that the problem is in trying to do the MPEG encoding in real time, but my PC is twice as fast as the minimum spec so I wasn't expecting problems.
