Product Description

Review

"...text remains most pleasant to read and has maintained its lucent and elegant style." "Adams and Victor's book ranks first among textbooks in neurology on account of its didactics." "...the book remarkable when compared with other similar texts." "The seventh edition of Adams and Victor's textbook remains a first-class book for residents training in neurology, but is no less valuable for senior neurologists. It is also a perfect reference for other medical specialists and psychologists. Non-neurologists will easily find answers to their questions, with an appropriate amount of detail. The cliche that everyone should purchase this book or that it belongs in any neurological library is redundant and out of tune here. One can certainly live without this book, but medical life is far more pleasant with a copy within reach." Lancet 20011006 --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Product Description

The definitive guide to the full spectrum of neurology

"This is one of the best neurology textbooks available, providing the distilled insights and knowledge of some of today's truly outstanding neurologic clinicians....Like its predecessors, the current edition features writing that is clear and concise, yet conversational—it almost feels as if the reader is on rounds hearing the insights of a truly superb clinician....offers a great deal to the serious student of neurology and is well worth the investment. This outstanding text will continue to be a key resource for neurologists and neurosurgeons, as well as resident trainees in those disciplines. Many practicing internists, emergency physicians, and pediatricians will also find it to be an excellent resource."--JAMA

A Doody's Core Title ESSENTIAL PURCHASE for 2011!

4 STAR DOODY'S REVIEW!
"This book should be an essential element in the library of both young and seasoned clinicians....This has always been a successfully balanced textbook, combining a personal approach to the study of neurology and neurologic diseases. This edition, now 1572 pages, expands on the prior editions admirably. It achieves the difficult task of refreshing and updating a classic."--Doody's Review Service

"one of the iconic texts in clinical medicine. The fact that it is now in its ninth edition attests to its durability and credibility as a comprehensive source for the pathophysiology, evaluation, and treatment of disorders of the nervous system. First published in 1975, it has withstood the enormous changes in neurological sciences during the subsequent decades and has remained a staple on the reference shelves of practitioners from a variety of backgrounds and training levels....A unique attribute for a volume of this size is that each chapter is written by the same authors, thus achieving a uniformity of voice....As a gold standard text, the ninth edition of Adams and Victor’s Principles of Neurology would serve as valuable complement to any medical library."--World Neurosurgery Journal

Adams and Victor's Principles of Neurology provides all the information you will need to confidently handle any neurologic problem, from disorders of motility, and derangements of intellect, behavior, and language, to the degenerative and neuromuscular diseases. Having this gold standard text on your reference shelf is like being able to consult with skilled clinicians on a daily basis. More than a compilation of facts, Adams and Victor's delivers expert insights not found in any other resource that help you understand every aspect of neurological disease.

Written in a conversational style, the text offers practical, yet in-depth, coverage of both common and rare illnesses. Adams and Victor's Principles of Neurology also includes timely, complete, and accessible treatment and clinical management strategies.

great work 3 Jan 2004
Format:Paperback
A comprehensive textbook of neurology, which does well to be written rather than edited by two authors. All major neurological diseases are covered comprehensively for any neurology or internal medicine trainees. The style of prose is superb, precise and to the point. All in all, one of the best written, most useful medical textbooks I have ever read. Partners perfectly with Patten, which is essential for any neurology trainee, and demystifies neurology - particularly for the mrcp clinical exam

Format:Hardcover
This 1600pp-book is a clinically-oriented approach to the major syndromes and diseases of the nervous system. Neurologic examination is not covered. Its overall quality is one the highest. The authors of the 6th edition have placed considerable attention to diseases that traditionally interested child neurologists (developmental neurology, inherited metabolic diseases). The chapters on neurodegeneration and demyelinating diseases are very well written. Cerebrovascular disease is covered in 100 pp. The chapter on peripheral neuropathies does not contain a clinical algorithm for reaching diagnosis in the patient with a neuropathic syndrome - something that almost all neurology textbooks lack. Not particular emphasis has been placed to clinical details of therapy. The practicing neurologist will have to consult another source for that. Chapters are very well balanced, and many cross-references are provided. The authors have also done a good job with the bibliography, providing references to key papers with more detail on each subject dealt.

Absolutely perfect 17 April 2012

I feel like recommending this book to any psychiatrist/neurologist or whatever other physician who wants have a better understanding of neurology. This book is complete and really opens up a new world to you. Of course, given the sheer amount of info reported, it can be quite heavy but, in the end of day, medicine is not easy and I personally prefer more details rather than too little or incomplete info.
