Adam-12 ran for seven seasons from 1969 to 1975, and is certainly my kind of cop show as I find it to be very addictive viewing. Having now watched the first 5 seasons I can say that the standards have remained consistantly high throughout, with great attention to detail (real police cars, badges etc) which gives great authenticity to the investigations which are based on real-life cases. Each of the 25-minute episodes move along at a good pace. Tightly scripted, with excellent performances, the dialogue is snappy and realistic.

With the series revolving around the everyday duties of LAPD patrol officers Pete Malloy (Martin Milner) and Jim Reed (Kent McCord) the pair share a good rapport, with Malloy being the senior partner. The humour in the show is natural and unforced, and each episode manages to cram a lot of action and incident into it's relatively short running time. Each instalment feels as if the viewer is accompanying the officers on patrol, as the often gritty action unfolds without the familiar padding or unnecessary dialogue that sometimes slows the pace of some crime dramas.

Each episode usually has a main investigation with the addition of a number of less serious misdemeanors which are sometimes odd or unusual. The problems facing the officers include the likes of killers, gun crime, drugs, robbery and burglary. The series was created by Jack Webb (Dragnet) and the show features a guest appearance from the cast of fellow 70's TV series 'Emergency' (another Webb series).

The picture and sound quality on this 24-episode collection is very good, there are no extras or subtitles. The 4 discs are stored in two slim cases which feature a full episode synopsis, and are housed in a card outer case.

Great Series 2 May 2010
By Mark Wolf - Published on

I have enjoyed the first 4 seasons and wait with great anticipation for season 5 to hit the market.
The stories are taken from real life cases in L.A. If you like Dragnet you will feel the same about this show. Not only was it a great series but the quality of the first 4 seasons of Adam 12 have been outstanding, no reason to think otherwise with this next season. And to top it off it comes in at a very attractive and affordable price at less then $25.00...Great deal, great show and great quality, hard to top that.

Shout Factory Does It Again! 24 Aug. 2010

Thank you Shout Factory for continuing to release the Adam-12 franchise! The show just keeps getting better by the season and volume 5 is no exception. Buy it with no regrets.

By the way, Jack Webb had a knack for advertising new projects. I'm quite certain that one of your favorite episodes will be the one where Reed and Malloy end up taking a young boy to Rampart General Hospital where you will meet the main cast of Emergency! (Julie, Robert, Bobby, Kevin, and Randy!) It's truly a Jack Webb "overload." - Brilliant!

Almost Great 26 Dec. 2010
By Scott Satellite - Published on
Format: DVD Verified Purchase
Okay, self-admitted major Adam-12 nut here. I liked it when it was new, and I think high production values and realistic representation of the LAPD have left us with a show that's aged so well that I don't anything since has ever come close (other Jack Webb productions excluded, of course). There's just enough of a human element to make the the characters real yet no so much that it sidetracks the fast-paced action. It's hard to believe how much ground these shows cover in a single episode, literally and figuratively.

My only beef, and reason I had to give this a 4 instead of a 5 is because the first of the four DVDs is saddled with a promo for three really sad 1980s shows that is one of the longest and most annoying I've ever seen on any TV show or movie I've ever purchased. It just goes on and on and on. It's more of an infomercial than a commercial or promo really. So when you pop in disk one, you'll have plenty of time to go make a sandwich, take a shower, or check your email before you can start watching the shows. Thankfully this only applies the first DVD in the set.

To date I own all five seasons and can't wait for seasons 6 & 7!!! I love this show!!! I can remember watching this as reruns in the late 70's and early 80's and was a huge fan even then. I'll take this potrayal of uniformed police over any of the junk on TV now. With simple, concise storylines and two great leads this should be a text-book example of how to do this genre. Shout Factory has come through again with this release!!!
