"This book does have are excellent descriptions of current ideas on the assessment, treatment and management of various musculo-skeletal structures...This book brings together not only a lot of information but has many contributors which make it a lively and stimulating book to read. Product Description

"Acupuncture in Manual Therapy" is a comprehensive overview of manual therapy interventions combined with acupuncture management of musculoskeletal disorders covering all major joints of the body. The book is intended to offer physiotherapists and students of acupuncture a clinical reasoning model, whilst supporting suggested interventions with the relevant evidence base in order to alleviate pain, restore function and facilitate rehabilitation within musculoskeletal management. It places an emphasis on the neurophysiological processes of pain management stressing the importance of using the correct intervention for the relevant presenting pain mechanism. Each chapter of this book discusses suggested manual intervention, acupuncture evidence and physiological processes underpinning this combined approach to musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction including meridian acupuncture, auricular acupuncture, electroacupuncture, tens and trigger point acupuncture as a means of addressing the varying pain patterns presented within musculoskeletal rehabilitation. This book provides knowledge from distinctive and prominent contributors from the world of manual therapy and acupuncture whilst this expertise is further supported by the provision of student case studies to offer support and enhance learning.

I like this book. I am currently studying acupuncture and work as a physiotherapist. What this book does so well is give you a reasoned approach to how acupuncture might complement manual therapy. It is easy to understand and the case studies clinically reason through the use of both manual therapy and acupuncture for certain conditions. It has helped me in the treatment of my patients and developed my clinical reasoning. Well worth a buy.

Advised to get this prior to attending an acupuncture for pain relief course in March and April this year.
I have to say that elements of acupuncture are now clear to me as an AHP which I am grateful for prior to attending the course.
Looks to be well worth the money in view of rationale behind treatment choices.

Good read 16 Jun 2011

I haven't read this book from cover to cover as yet, but just skimming through it, it seems sympathetic and supportive of acupuncture (the author uses, and is qualified in acupuncture as well). It's great to be able to have some ideas from a well qualified physiotherapist on musculo-skeletal conditions and explaining them in acupuncture terms and providing a treatment plan from a western viewpoint (then you can compare your own diagnosis and selection of points).
