Really useful,
This review is from: Active Sociology for GCSE (Paperback)
As an ex GCSE Sociology student, I can highly recommend this book for everything covered in the OCR syllabus at least. The chapters are well set out and cover all the key points, with comprehension questions- great for consolodating knowledge. The chapters are nicely laid out, making information easy to digest. I would definately recommend this to students and teachers. It definately helped me in getting my A*!

I used this book for my gcse in 2006 and i also got an A*, the book is great at helping the student retain information. chapters are organised well and each double page is like one lesson. on the double page there is the main body of information but also an exercise and a short summing up of the material making it easy to see the main points that are being made.
i found the most useful part of the book was at the end of each chapter, it had for example in the chapter on family all the sociological concepts relating to that area in an alphabetical list with explanation of meanings: for example the meaning of empty nest family. this helped me get a good score in my exam as if you go to the AQA website it says that gcse sociology examiners will give good marks to people who know sociological concepts as in past years people have not used the sociological concepts in their exam answers. the book looks good inside and is good for younger or older students, im a mature student and it was not too childish or too grown up, most of my class mates had only just left school and they also found the text a good source of information. my exam body was AQA and the book was relevant to all that was needed to complete my gcse. in fact although i did try to use other sociology books to gain information i always came back to this one.

Active Sociology for GCSE,
This review is from: Active Sociology for GCSE (Paperback)
The Active Sociology for GCSE text book is extremely useful, and I would definately recommend that you buy it if you are taking the subject.
Covering all areas of Sociology, this book is suitable for all examination boards and specifications. The language used is at an appropraite level, and the layout of the pages are extremely clear. The text contains studies that reflect current issues, as well as new exam questions. Furthermore, key issues are highlighted throughout the book. The text is extremely useful for revision purposes, as well as coursework. Looking at topics such as Crime, Families and Education, this book goes into much needed detail of the sub-areas in each topic. To conlude, this book is extremely useful and is definately worth buying. I am currently in my final year at school and have taken Sociology for two years. I have used this book throughout both years, and have been graded an A* for months, with a grade A being my lowest ever grade in the subject. This text will definately help to improve your grade in GCSE Sociology, as well as help you to reach your full potential.
