Find Another Book 10 Jan 2012
By J. White - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I received this book for free from my OB doctor when I got pregnant with my second child. I read about half of it, and I don't think I'll finish it. It's very repetitive and unorganized and doesn't explain things well. One thing it talks about is creeping, crawling, and cruising. I never could figure out from this book what those terms specifically meant. But the book kept going back to those terms. The book said that "cruising is not walking"... well then what is cruising? I had to look up the definition somewhere else to finally understand. That was true with a lot of other things mentioned in this book. Some of the activities they say you should do they don't describe well enough, so I couldn't figure out what they were saying to do. The pictures helped most of the time, but other times, the pictures didn't seem to match what they were describing.
And I definitely agree with another reviewer that said some of the activities are not appropriate, like a 2-6 month old rolling down an incline or a 6-12 month old climbing a ladder?!?! Yikes. No thank you. I think I'll look for another book.

Simple, but Helpful Book 16 Feb 2011
By Lewis Family - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is a simple, clear-cut and easy read. We have a young child that receives PT and this book helped illustrate for us what our therapists were often suggesting or advising us on. We're the types that do better with having something to read as opposed to just being told what to do and this book helped us visualize what our therapists were explaining to us (since it wasn't always possible for them to show us on our child in the early days of her early intervention services when she was so young and sometimes would sleep through appointments). So this book made it easier for us to understand what it is we are supposed to be incoporating and working on with our daughter. Highly recommend it to other parents of special needs children who are just getting started with PT or other therapies. Not everything in the book will apply if your child is not yet moving well, but it still gives ideas on how to incorporate activities to encourage balance, body awareness, shoulder/arm/hand development, etc.

ridiculous 15 Nov 2010

I came across this book and was amazed that the copyright was 2010. After reading the Amazon blurb, I see that the author was 80 years old. This might explain the crazy diagrams that show sending your 0-6 month old to roll down your outstretched legs or having your six month old climb a ladder.
