From Amazon.co.uk

Act of Valour aims to capture the experience of Navy SEALs as they combat the schemes of a Chechnyan jihadist who wants to send suicide bombers into American stadiums and shopping malls. Their efforts take them all over the world, from Costa Rica to Somalia to the South Pacific. For added authenticity, eight real Navy SEALs have been cast in the lead roles. In terms of tactics and equipment, Act of Valour is rigorously authentic. What marks this as fantasy is the perfection of the missions (there are no civilian casualties; every sniper takes out his target in a single head shot--there are a lot of exploding heads in this movie) and absolute moral clarity (the wild-eyed jihadist and drug cartel foot soldiers are unquestionably evil; one of the main characters carries his grandfather's folded flag from World War II). The performances of the SEALs, though well intentioned, make you appreciate the complexities of Arnold Schwarzenegger. What's smart about Act of Valour is that it doesn't waste much time with setups or dialogue, but heads straight into the missions. However, much of these missions are filmed like a first-person-shooter video game, which lends a sense of immediacy but undercuts the sense of reality. Still, all in all, Act of Valour is a sincere attempt to express admiration for the men and women risking their lives in the military. --Bret Fetzer

5.0 out of 5 stars An epic recruitment video for the US Army 10 April 2012
By J. Morris TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
...but boy is it fantastic!! Act of Valor features genuine U.S. Navy SEALs and U.S. Navy Special Warfare Combatant Crewmen with actual military hardware, resultantly it has an incredible edge of realism, people's mannerisms and attitude to their equipment is authentic.

It follows the story of a global terrorist threat that is intent on smuggling suicide-bombers wrapped in the latest bomb-vest technology; untraceable & undetectable ceramic ball-bearing explosives. With the sheer number of people trying to infiltrate the United States via people-smuggling networks these relatively minor explosions will cause mass hysteria and ultimately the collapse of the American economy if the terrorists get their way. Standing between them and the world are the SEALs (Team 7, in this instance) who will not rest until this plot has been defused.

Firstly, I feel it important to say that I appreciate that this is a recruitment video, that it is American propaganda and heavily one-sided, but despite these points I have never been so entertained by a military film and for this - solely cinematic - perspective, Act of Valor definitely deserves the five stars. For fans of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series or any other FPS this is a dream. There are multiple camera shots down-barrel, FLIR images from circling drones, HALO jumps, AC-130 Spectre gunships, sniper scope cameras and boat-drops from Chinooks. Basically, if it's been in a video-game it's here in all it's glory on celluloid. Not only does it have a strong element of realism, it's a beautifully shot experience filmed in multiple locations (The Philippines, Somalia, Mexico amongst others).

Extra Content: There are interviews with the Navy SEALs and 7 featurettes titled: Making Of, Real Bullets, Real SEALs Real Tactics, Silent Warriors, "For You" (a music video by Keith Urban), Making of the Music Video, Director's Intro.

The film states that the story is "based on real acts of valor" and all of the scenes have purportedly taken place, albeit not to the exact same unit in the frenetic sequence seen in this film, but that's Hollywood for you. The end result is an extremely entertaining, occasionally poignant, but always exciting military film. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best 18 July 2012
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Great film, All the main cast are SEALs. You can't get a more accurate account of what SEALs do. THEY helped produce the film from start to finish.

I can't beleive someone has written it glorifies war! Why buy a bloody war film!!!

great visual effects, great screen play, only negative is the acting is a little off, but that is because these guys are true 100% warriors not pro actors. I can't find any other fault.

Great film...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good action but a little short on story
A well made film about navy seals on a couple of missions. Apparently based on a true story. Not bad but I thought a little low on the human aspect re a story line.
