Paranormal Shifter Military Special Ops Romance

Paranormal Security and Intelligence Operative Duke Marlow has a new mission: find, interrogate and possibly eliminate the target—Mercy Deluca. He knows looks can be deceiving, but it's hard to believe the beautifully quirky woman running around in a superhero t-shirt is a viable threat. The sexy little biomedical engineer quickly proves she is more than he bargained for and Intel has it all wrong—she’s not the enemy. Far from it. Intel also forgot to mention one vital piece of information—she’s Duke’s mate. This immortal alpha werewolf doesn’t take kindly to her being in danger.

When Mercy accepted a position within The Corporation she thought it was to help cure disease and to make a difference for mankind. She had no idea what her new career path truly entailed—monsters masquerading under the guise of scientific research. Unable to stomach the atrocities she’s uncovered, she reaches out through what she hopes is the proper channels, asking for help. Mercy gets more than she bargains for when a team of paranormal hotties shows up on her doorstep ready to take down The Corporation. One in particular seems to be able to get under skin, both aggravating her and exciting her in ways she can’t explain.

    About the Author

Mandy M. Roth grew up fascinated by creatures that go bump in the night. From the very beginning, she showed signs of creativity-writing, painting, telling scary stories that left her little brother afraid to come out from under his bed. Combining her creativity with her passion for the paranormal has left her banging on the keyboard into the wee hours of the night.
She's a self-proclaimed Goonie, loves 80s music and movies and wishes leg warmers would come back into fashion. She also thinks the movie The Breakfast Club should be mandatory viewing for...okay, everyone. When she's not dancing around her office to the sounds of the 80s or writing books, she can be found designing book covers for New York publishers, small presses, and indie authors.
Mandy writes for The Raven Books, Samhain Publishing, Ellora's Cave Publishing, Harlequin Spice, Pocket Books and Random House/Virgin/Black Lace. Mandy also writes under the pen names Reagan Hawk, Mandy Balde, Rory Michaels and Kennedy Kovit.

4.0 out of 5 stars a trips down imagination road review 6 April 2015
    Format:Kindle Edition
    Title: Act of Mercy
    Series: PSI Ops (#1)
    Author: Mandy M Roth
    From: Review Copy
    Genre: Paranormal, Romance
    Challenges: N/A
    Release Date: 3rd March 2014

Dr Mercy Deluca knows that something is fundamentally wrong with what the Corporation and what it is doing, and with the help of one of the test subjects, she secretly contacts an unknown source for help. Duke can't help but feel that Mercy isn't the bad person they think she is, even if he's never actually met her. Something draws him to her and it doesn't take him long to figure out that he's found his one true mate.

Act of Mercy drew me into the story at a startling speed! Both with Mercy and Duke as main characters. There was something about both of them that I instantly liked and I didn't feel like I had to warm to them at all! Plus the chemistry between them worked well, even if they didn't get a chance to act on it for a while!

Mercy was a character to say the least. I definitely liked having a quirky woman as the main character, and it went along with her incrediable brains. She was smart, as well as good looking, though I didn't feel like much time was given over to her looks, more to her personality and her brains! It was a good thing for sure! I also liked that she had no idea what her own heritage was, though that is an intrigueing thought!

Though what the Corporation (and other like organisations that were hinted at) did was terrible, I liked the idea that that is how some of the world reacts to supernatural presences. It makes sense that not everyone would be accepting, and that some people would go to extreme lengths to use that to their advantage. It seemed realistic.

I love Mandy Roth books and have read a lot of them. This book was given to me by the author for an ARC review and I loved it just as much as all the others.

Act of Mercy is the first book in the PSI Ops series, a spin off from the Immortal Ops books and is a fantastic start to the new series.

It is the story of Duke Marlow, a 250 year-old werewolf and PSI operative who has spent the last 100 years with the same team, which is currently missing two of it's members. A two finger typist who hates technology, especially computers, phones and aeroplanes, routinely turns in his reports a couple of months late on principle, is offensive at the best of times, hates everybody - sort of - and whose vocabulary seems to have degenerated to a few angry words.

The team receives an encrypted file about one of the missing members, James, but they can't decrypt most of it. What they can get is James' ID tag and the name Mercy DeLuca who they discover is in France and assume is the bad guy. Oh great! a trip on a plane is in Duke's very near future - his most hated and terrifying form of technology. But Duke has a funny feeling, it doesn't feel right that Mercy is the bad guy.

Mercy DeLuca, a medical doctor as well as a biomedical engineer, is an absent minded genius who works as a scientific researcher for the Donavon Dynamics Corporation. She is also Duke's mate. One day she stumbles upon James being tortured and discovers all the atrocities going on, none of which she signed up for. She collects evidence and files covering decades, but has no idea who to tell about what she's discovered. James gives her a contact and instructions on how to send the files, but she forgets to add the all important code that will tell the good guys she's on their side.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grumpy is the new sexy!!!! 5 Jan. 2015
    Format:Kindle Edition
PSI Op and badass, grumpy shifter Duke Marlow did the unthinkable...he answered the phone and now he's having to get his technologically challenged ass on a plane. Mercy Deluca is a source and possible enemy..she is really an absentminded biomedical engineering marvel who has been sucked in by The Corporation.

She walked in on test subject 87p being tortured and she is now trying to free him and the other "test subjects". She sends info to the Psi-Ops and is now waiting for the cavalry to arrive.

Loved when Duke goes in waving a gun and Mercy asks if he was there to fix her sink. Mercy unwittingly has Duke's DNA profile as artwork on her wall as the "perfect man"

This is another great short read from Ms Roth. I love the antics of the Psi-ops team, they are huge, immortal kindergartners and I love the way they nominate each other for "A*****e of the week!! The characters in this book are fully formed, flaws and all, and I can't wait for the next

4.0 out of 5 stars The Duke and the Biologist 4 Aug. 2015
    By SC
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Mercy Deluca has been deceived and she doesn't like it. Hired as a biomedical engineer by the Donavon Dynamics Corporation she expected to help cure diseases and make a difference. Trouble is the difference she's making is not a good one, they've been using her to try and create monsters! When Mercy reaches out to a contact one of the "monsters" has given her she encounters Duke Marlow who thinks her call is just a big joke set up by his colleagues in the department and reacts accordingly. When events prove that Mercy may have a connection to one of their missing operatives Duke is assigned to find out what she knows and how far she is involved. What he doesn't expect to find is that Mercy is telling the truth. Oh yeah and as an immortal alpha werewolf he only gets one mate, funnily enough turns out it's Mercy. Now they are fighting for their lives and the lives of all he holds dear. Could life get any more complicated?
