They tried, they really did, but in the end the movie comes out showing an awful lot like an 'After School Special'. The dialogue is wooden, and often comes out fabricated. I actually think Rick Schroeder and Brad Pitt are pretty good actors, but in this early showing for Brad, the continuously artificial scripting doesn't give him a chance to show his best.

They've really tried to make it an emotional roller coaster - but it ultimately fails. It's predictable and somewhat unbelievable as we follow one of the brothers fall from grace while the other one picks him self up from the gutter in spite of some well stereotyped peer pressure baddies thrown in to symbolise 'the dark side'

Not a bad kids' flick though - and entertaining enough to watch through to the end.

Across The Tracks 26 Feb 2003
By 423206
Format:DVD
Across The Tracks is a fast-paced and emotional story of a teenager's coming-of-age after returning home from reform school, and the effects he has on the people around him. Billy (Rick Schroder) finds that he is no longer comfortable with the roles and actions he had previously relished, and so must find new paths to lead him to manhood. His older brother Joe (Brad Pitt), has become dedicated to becoming the top half-mile runner in his high school division, and soon the sibling rivalry manifests itself on the track. Through it all, their mother (Carrie Snodgress) tries to cope with the lives they are leading, and together they learn that life consists of making choices and being ready to stand by them. Rick Schroder is great !!

Across the Tracks rules! 26 Jan 2000
By Melissa - Published on Amazon.com
Though this movie is slightly cheesy, and obviously neither Brad nor Ricky's best work, it is very entertaining nonetheless. Brad Pitt as a track star...need I say any more? And Ricky Schroeder as a troubled youth looking to make a fresh start...brilliant. The best part of the movie is the drunk scene (if you watch it you'll know what I mean), which can be reenacted over and over with your friends for hours and hours of guaranteed hilarity. A must see, and one of my favorites!

I remembered watching this movie back in the early 90's!! It's a Great Movie, Brad Pitt has come a long way since "Across the Tracks" He delivered a good performance! It's always good to see Rick Schroder appear in a Movie, He too did the movie Justice!.. A classic Drama about brotherhood, it is worth watching again!

Low budget and poorly produced but still a great film 13 Jan 2008
By Matthew T. Oneill - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
The film starts off feeling like a bad Lifetime movie. It has a sort of after school special feel to it. It's low budget, not very skillful in its direction, and Pitt is still developing his craft. He's not yet at his best. Despite all this, the further you get into the film the more involving it becomes. I loved this film.
There is a lot of depth to the relationship between the two brothers and besides Without Limits this is the best track film that I have ever seen.
