Product Description

For eight years, far beyond the battlefields of Vietnam and the glare of media distortions, American Green Berets fought a deadly secret war in Laos and Cambodia under the aegis of the top secret Military Assistance Command Vietnam – Studies and Observations Group, or SOG.

Go deep into the jungle with five SOG warriors surrounded by 10,000 enemy troops as they stack up the dead to build a human buttress for protection. Witness a Green Beret, shot in the back four times and left for dead, who survives to fight savagely against incredible odds to complete his missions.

Shudder as an enemy soldier touches a Green Beret’s boot in the dark of night. Cringe as a Sergeant on SOG Spike Team Louisiana calls in an air strike on his team to break an enemy’s wave attack. A team member dies instantly, and a Green Beret has an out-of-body experience as he watches his leg get blown off.

“As the commander of SOG, I can say that “Across the Fence” accurately reflects why the secret war was hazardous for our troops and so deadly for the enemy.
– Major General John K. Singlaub (U. S. Army Ret.)

Black Ops told with the terrifying clarity that only one who was there can tell it.
– W.E.B. Griffin & William E. Butterworth IV

A very secret war! 19 Oct 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Brilliant book which has obviously only become possible becuase of the 20 year restriction on the secret operations into North Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. That American soldiers were willing to risk their lives in this type of secret operations speaks volumes about the tencity of the American soldier, particularily as they entered into their operational environment completely sterile, they would be disowned if cought and were actually told, if captured to speak in another language. They were not allowed to take anything into action that identified them as Americans, technically they were expendable. It is historically correct, weapons, tactics and general scene setting and the action is well described. If you are interested in the war in Vietnam and Special Forces operations this is a must read for you, and as an added bonus it is also well priced

A compulsive read 30 April 2012

This a real page turner. It was full of action and suspense that brought the war up close and personal. If you read any book on the Vietnam war, then make it this one.

A great book and well written. I have read many books on the Viet Nam war and feel this gives a true and real perspective.

Black then told the general that when he observed the NVA flag flying in the middle of the knoll, he assumed that the intelligence estimates of an NVA battalion of approximately 3,000 troops was accurate. The generals response ensured ST Alabamas place in SOG history. No, the general corrected Black, It was a division. We had about 10,000 soldiers of the Army of North Vietnam there that day. "e;
