Ah, and there would be many more to follow! But this is where it all started, an engagingly witty and unique take on outdoor adventure that lies beyond the norm. Veteran hillsmith Turnbull takes us through the highs and lows of this extreme way of crossing the most beautiful country in the world (various route suggestions, covering the length of the land). Brilliantly, he does so in a way that makes you want to get out there and do it yourself as soon as possible. But at the same time he manages to impart a great deal of very useful information and advice in a very humorous manner. For those of you who feel jaded by the vagaries of modern life, looking for something to put some sparkle into your holiday time, Turnbull has it all laid out here, provided you are willing to entertain the idea of spending a night in a cave, or on a wind-swept Munro summit. I, for one, shall be there.
