Across 110th Street is the soundtrack from the 1972 film of the same name (a must see film if you're into the genre). Quentin Tarantino has since brought the title song back into the public consciousness by using it in the opening sequence (one of the best ever I have to say) of his film, Jackie Brown (another must see film).

Across 110th Street is one of my all time favourite albums. I was especially chuffed with this very nice hardback CD book 40th Anniversary Edition as it includes a second CD with two Bobby Womack studio albums on it and looks terrific as well. Super value. Makes it a real bargain if you like Bobby Womack.

I really wanted this CD but only for across 110th street. I do like some of the other songs but I think I have literally worn out across 110th street. Great atmospheric sound!

Bought this for the title song having heard it in the film "Jackie Brown" & not disappointed with the many other tracks. The film is great too.

classic 70s soundtrack with bonus studio albums 4 Feb. 2013
By Donald E. Gilliland - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
When I moved from the US to Thailand nearly 20 years ago, one of my biggest regrets was having to leave behind some of my music collection. The fabulous soundtrack to "Across 110th Street" was one of those that didn't make the journey with me due to baggage limitations (which would be far worse nowadays!). In any case, I rejoiced at getting the chance to buy this CD again, and now it has a bonus disc that contains two Bobby Womack albums from the same era.

"Across 110th Street", released in 1972, is indeed a classic soundtrack, and the title track in particular has gained renewed popularity after being used in Tarantino's "Jackie Brown" soundtrack in the 90s. But this soundtrack has much more than a few cool Bobby Womack songs. In fact, the glue that holds the soundtrack together are the instrumental contributions from J.J. Johnson, who composed and conducted the musical score to the film, co-wrote the title cut with Womack, and supplies more magic along the way. If you like Johnson's compositions on here you should also check out the other amazing soundtrack he did in the 70s, "Cleopatra Jones". Great stuff!

40 years after it was released, "Across 110th Street" still stands as one of the better soundtracks of the "Blaxploitation" era. Although it barely cracks the 30-minute barrier, the music is all outstanding. Five stars on its own. The bonus disc with this package contains two studio albums by Womack; his 1973 album "Facts of Life" and the 1974 followup "Lookin' For a Love Again." I had heard many of those songs before, thanks to various Womack compilations that I own, but I had never heard each album in its entirety, so a lot of these tunes were new to me. As with many studio albums of that era, there are some gems and some filler. Many of Womack's orginals are very solid if not splendid, but some of his cover attempts ("All Along the Watchtower" and "A Natural Man") are less pleasing.

This CD set includes a nice booklet with track details, a bit of history about these albums, and a synopsis of Bobby Womack's recording career by Roger Dopson. A well done package that is housed in a sturdy hardcover gatefold case.

Bobby Womack voice is just pure soul!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 26 Jan. 2012
By K. Baker - Published on Amazon.com

When I was a child, my older sisters and brothers often had the radio on and more than often I would hear the sounds of Bobby Womack coming across the speakers. I was naturally drawn to his music because I love poetry and am a poet myself but after watching Bobby Womack UNSUNG, I realize that there were some songs that I didn't remember hearing before like, "If You Don't Want My Love" and there was another one but I can't remember the name of it now but it was a song that I hadn't heard before either. So I found myself ordering this cd and another one. I saw him once at the Blues Festival in Columbia, SC a few years back but I couldn't get close enough to even wish for an autograph because the man that I was with was threaten by this singer...imagine that. I was in my 30s then and Bobby was probably 60ish but I waited close to midnight just to hear him sing, he was the last performer and the only reason that I went to the concert (nothing against the other singers though). I also learned that he is a very accomplished guitar player as well. The fourth song on this album is an instrumental but it got me to moving in my room when I played it. I love the 70s era, its fashion, its music...so maybe that's why I was drawn to him, his voice, his style; I have a bit of an old soul...and his music, his soul (which I believe plays an instrumental part in writing his songs) speak to me. I was also impress with his pick of artist for his tribute album by Calvin Richardson, if you haven't heard it...you should get it. He's not Bobby Womack but he will make you fall in love with him all over again. Like Bobby, Calvin Richardson, can blow!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep singing and performing Bobby Womack cause you definitely have a gift and an audience both young and old!!!

...so I haven't actually opened it to inspect it. The packaging seems to be in excellent shape, so I am confident the rest of the item is fine. Shipping packaging was well done.

Thanks!
