Disappointed by the lack of real acoustic material, the line-up is not to be argued with. Dido apart, the album gives you a broad range of styles. From the more pop-cultured 'Have a nice Day' to the unforgettable sounds of 'Brown Eyed Girl' and 'No Surprises'. Classics in their own rights by Van Morrison and Radiohead respectively. The sound of Eva Cassidy's 'Songbird' can only be described as 'sweet' whilst Oasis' contribution is one of their better songs; 'The Masterplan'. Jean Jacques Smoothie's go at 'Love and Evil' stands out whilst Ryan Adams' 'My Winding Wheel' reminds you of the American solo artist pre-'Gold'. As with the album's predecessor, Paul Weller closes the album with a live track.
'Acoustic 2' is not to be compared to the first in the series though. Both contain different types of music - even if some of the artists appear on both. Namely Turin breaks and Feeder. Whilst 'Acoustic' features must-hear songs from the likes of Tom McRae, Simon and Garfunkel and Spek, number two has its own qualities. Dido lets it down. 'Thankyou' - the soundtrack to her duet with Eminem plays early on the first disc. The series will never be successful as the 'Now that's what I call music' collection - but should last another one or two volumes.
If you're looking for an acoustic album, buy this one. I think it's great how this collection gave me a new taste in music, and i do appreciate that, and so should you! Go buy it!
