'Acoustic 2' is the follow up compilation album to 'Acoustic', complied and produced by V2. The title and a quick skim through the track list may give the impression that this album is full of acoustic versions of songs by artists such as Travis, Badly Drawn Boy and the Stereophonics. Ala MTV Unplugged. You'd me wrong. The 'Acoustic' 'series' is merely a double CD compilation of Indie and Alternative anthems. Its era ranges from as far back as Donovan and The Kinks to music of today. The Electronic Soft Parade and Elbow to note.

Disappointed by the lack of real acoustic material, the line-up is not to be argued with. Dido apart, the album gives you a broad range of styles. From the more pop-cultured 'Have a nice Day' to the unforgettable sounds of 'Brown Eyed Girl' and 'No Surprises'. Classics in their own rights by Van Morrison and Radiohead respectively. The sound of Eva Cassidy's 'Songbird' can only be described as 'sweet' whilst Oasis' contribution is one of their better songs; 'The Masterplan'. Jean Jacques Smoothie's go at 'Love and Evil' stands out whilst Ryan Adams' 'My Winding Wheel' reminds you of the American solo artist pre-'Gold'. As with the album's predecessor, Paul Weller closes the album with a live track.

'Acoustic 2' is not to be compared to the first in the series though. Both contain different types of music - even if some of the artists appear on both. Namely Turin breaks and Feeder. Whilst 'Acoustic' features must-hear songs from the likes of Tom McRae, Simon and Garfunkel and Spek, number two has its own qualities. Dido lets it down. 'Thankyou' - the soundtrack to her duet with Eminem plays early on the first disc. The series will never be successful as the 'Now that's what I call music' collection - but should last another one or two volumes.

Brilliant! 12 Nov 2004
Format:Audio CD
Another excellent acoustic album! The second in the series, and again it has some excellent acoustic indie type songs on here. It really opens your eyes to the great, usually unmentioned artists out there. It really makes a bigger name for them. I really love this album, it's as good as the first.

If you're looking for an acoustic album, buy this one. I think it's great how this collection gave me a new taste in music, and i do appreciate that, and so should you! Go buy it!

I'm a big fan of acoustic music, so this CD seemed like a natural choice. It was much better than I thought it would be, and is probably the best compilation album that I own. The music is all superb and of brilliant quality, especially good for listening to when you're driving as well. Some really great relaxing and thoughtful songs.
