2.0 out of 5 stars A Bit Disappointing, 3 Jul 2003
Oh dear. I have read all the books from this series, and I must say that this is a very weak book compared with the others. It feels like the story has been stretched to make it long enough to be a book. I hope that this was a one-off and that the next book will be an improvement.

2.0 out of 5 stars This is where I end, 26 Sep 2009
Having read the four prequels in the series, I can say undoubtably that Acorna's Search is weakest of the bunch. The plot is that Acorna and the other Linyaari are busy helping restore the original Linyaari homeworld when people start disappearing without a trace. There are some interesting elements I found interesting- the prospect of the 'sii-linyaari'- a sister race to Acorna's, and the 'Friends'- the Linyaari forefathers, which are hinted to perhaps appear later in the book.

However, it wasn't enough for me to complete the novel. After five books, the story has just worn too thin. Acorna herself has little substance, and the supporting characters have been reduced to cardboard cutouts, and steretypes they once cleverly mocked. No development has taken place- Thariinye, who was supposed to be humbled by events in the prequel, is still as arrogant and vapid as ever.

The humour is completely gone. No doubt we're supposed to take some sort of amusement from mangy feline Roadkill, who for some reason seems to be everywhere and anywhere- almost as though he thinks he's the new main character- but I've never felt any connection with RK. Most of the characters have become distant. The only thing comical about the story is the amount of times 'horn-healing'- necessary; the characters are constantly injured or bruised- usually from RK's claws- and it becomes repititious and just plain silly.

Perhaps the books after this one will get better, but I end here. I'll never find out whether Acorna finds her friends, but the story's come to the point now that I'm not interested enough to find out. I don't recommend this one; the first two are wonderful, the third and fouth decent, but this is a book to stay away from unless you're a die-hard fan.
