This is a novel that had a lot of potential- having read the two prequels, I was hugely interested in finding out about Acorna's homeworld and how she would fit back in. However, bizzarely, McCaffrey seems to be more interested in a salvage man named Jonah and his loony cat Roadkill, or "RK". McCaffrey and her new partner seem desperate to make these new characters interesting, but all the time I was desperate to find out what Acorna was doing. The daughter of the former kingpin of Kezdet also stars, only she's turned from spoiled princess to sadistic schizophenic. The transformation is wholly unrealistic. I had to restrain myself from flipping forward to the scarse chapters with Acorna.
I didn't enjoy this book as much as its predecessors. I think this is in part to McCaffrey's new partner, Elizabeth Ann Scarborough. The writing style wasn't as active and interesting as before, and this follows on for the books that come after. There were parts that were interesting... but a lot that wasn't.
