Product Description

CD Description

The bands 1993 studio album finally gets a decent CD release! - This was The Ramones paying homage to tracks and bands that influenced them and include versions of The Who s Substitute and The Troggs I Can t Control Myself amongst it s 13 cuts - The rare Surfin Safari has been added as a bonus to an already strong track listing

There comes a time when certain bands decide to do a covers album & this was the Ramones attempt and waht a great one it was. Unlike having just another covers album they have chosen songs that inspired them (and occasionally performed live as well!). They make almost all the songs sound Ramones songs too with that brilliant Rhythm section and chugging Guitars!! There are also some celebrities doing backing vocals & making guest appearances, most notably Pete Townsend on the power packed version of "Substitute" & a famous Porn star appears on the brilliant jefferson Airplane cover "Someboby To Love"! The Stones "Out Of Time" sees Joey sounding more like Mick Jagger than Jagger himself! Still great!!! All in all a very enjoyable album and ironically it was their one before the last album in their career!

By far the best and most interesting of The Ramones collection.

Each and every interpretation of the tunes presented is excellent in its own way.

Top album and well worth buying.

The only difference between this and the original track listing is 1 song, still its worth the extra couple of quid for the tune.

the ramones were either really smart, or ran out of ideas, either way, its an ace album! 26 Feb 2007

the ramones are that type of band to make the worst situation a highly listenable one. they survived the production of EOTC, the rather poppy pleasant dreams, two 80's sounding album "sub jungle andanimal boy."...some may argue the production of brain dran, but i love it...anyways, on to acid eaters. this is genius. what better way to ensure everyone in the future can get into the Ramones' favorites than to cover them. i mean sure, joey and johnny cansay how much they loved "the who, beatles, and stones," but some people really will not care unless they are shown how good these influences are from a band they love. journey to the center of the mind is my favorite cj vocal track...and the bonus of surfin safari is well worth this unless rhino ever remasters it and sells an expanded edition.

Acid Burns 6 Feb 2008
By Tim Brough - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is one of the odder birds in the Ramones' discography. From a band known for its stellar covers, an album of nothing but. It's a great idea that doesn't always hit the target. For example, Jan and Dean's "Surf City" is the kind of beach-rock that would have fit in Ramones or Leave Home, and it definitely belongs here. But Bob Dylan's "My Back Pages" just doesn't transfer into the punk format.

There are some wonderful inspirational moments here (Pete Townshend's yelping on "Substitute" alone is worth having this CD), just not enough. Bonus points are added for having Traci Lords singing some backups! "Acid Eaters" serves as a reminder to who The Ramones had their radio ears plugged into during their growing years, but is otherwise for completists only.

Now if we could only get a compilation CD of all the various covers from their entire career!!!!! If you are merely curious, get Loud, Fast Ramones: Their Toughest Hits.

the ramones grab these cover songs with rock lust, sincerity and party enthusiasm...while keepin' their style and gabba, gabba intact...kudos to a band that i miss, but fortunately get to listen to with great efforts like this group of songs...many of their influences, jive with mine...got to rock on!
