You have to be nuts about old cookery books to appreciate this one - and I most definitely am! It's not so much a cookbook, as John Evelyn's thoughts on diet, nature, wild and cultivated vegetable edibles, and many other related and unrelated things. It's not a cookbook as such, but anyone into foraging for wild edibles, and/or growing your own for own consumption, will find it interesting and informative. However, usual rules apply - don't eat anything you're not sure about, just because he says so. Things were a bit different in a time when Oil of Vitriol taken internally seems to have been regarded as a cure for a number of ailments!
