Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The Timeline X 4820T delivers an extraordinary blend of extremes with up to 12-hour battery life, ultra-thin-light mobility, without compromising on its powerful performance. You can be completely mobile all day and still enjoy high-definition graphics and plenty of processing power for extreme multitasking.

Extended battery Life

The Aspire Timeline X 4820T gives you up to 12 hours battery life with a 9 cell battery, and 8 hours with the 6 cell option. This means you don’t need to worry about carrying your charger with you wherever you are and you can work and play knowing your laptop will last for a whole day.

While most notebooks with long battery life use higher cell batteries which protrude from the back of the notebook, Acer combined numerous low power components with a standard high-capacity 6-cell battery, allowing them to keep the design as small as possible.

In addition, a conveniently located PowerSmart button located above the keyboard allows you to easily extend battery life. A simple press of the button activates the advanced power savings settings, traditionally a tedious procedure accessed through numerous software-based steps. This one-button approach simplifies the process.

Lastly, an Acer PowerSmart adapter senses when the notebook is unplugged, and stops sending needless energy. It also stops pulling power from the wall outlet when the adapter is full.

Extreme Performance

The Aspire Timeline X 4820T uses the most up to date processor giving you a better, faster performance laptop. The power of next-generation Intel Core processor technology speeds up multitasking performance so you can work faster and have more fun, with less waiting. You can enjoy better playback on High Definition content, open as many documents and surf the web without worrying about the laptop performance being compromised.

A HD and multimedia experience

The Aspire Timeline X 4820T uses ATI Mobility Radeon HD graphics solutions (ATI graphics available on selected models) which offers unrivalled visual quality giving you the best quality visual entertainment for watching movies, playing games and surfing high quality videos.

With a multi-touch gesture touchpad, you can perform more tasks quicker on the X 4820T (View larger)

Extreme Design

Providing an elegant, high-tech design, a stylish brushed black aluminum finish provides solid protection to the display and internal components, and the system is also lead and mercury-free--making it easier to recycle. In addition, Acer has incorporated Intel's Laminar Wall Jet technology directing air flow in parallel layers, to keep the notebook significantly cooler.

The high-definition, 14.0” CineCrystal LED backlit widescreen display (16:9 ratio) offers 33% more energy savings than traditional notebook screens.

The Aspire Timeline X 4820T also features a Multi-Gesture Touchpad enabling you to pinch, flick and swirl your fingers across the touchpad for more natural photo and video viewing as well as intuitive navigation of websites.

The Aspire Timeline X 4820T is thin and light and only weighs a little 2.24kg weight making it ultra portable and lightweight perfect for any everyday scenario.

Easy Backup for Peace of Mind

The Aspire Timeline X family of notebooks also includes a backup button that lets you easily select and protect your irreplaceable digital files through regular scheduled backups or on an as-needed basis. Data can be backed up to an external hard drive, flash card, thumb drive or to a secure hidden partition on their PC.

Cool to the Touch

The Acer Timeline X series includes Acer's ComfyTouch technology, which uses an innovative Laminar Wall Jet Engine design to air-cool the processor and notebook case. Even when running for a full day the notebook remains cool in your hands or on your lap.

Networking, Connectivity & Expansion

With its integrated Draft-N Wi-Fi networking capabilities, this laptop provides up to five times the performance and twice the wireless range using 802.11n-compatible routers as you would with 802.11g networks. It's also backward compatible with 802.11b/g networks (commonly found at Wi-Fi hotspots and in older home routers) as well as 802.11a networks (which have a higher throughput, but more limited range--great for closed office environments). This notebook also provides ultra-fast Gigabit Ethernet networking (10/100/1000).

  • 4 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
  • 1 HDMI output for connecting to a compatible HDTV or home theater receiver for uncompressed digital audio and video via a single cable
  • Analog video output: 1 VGA
  • 5-in-1 card reader compatible with MultiMediaCard, Secure Digital card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO and xD-Picture Card
  • 1 headphone/line-out jack (with SPDIF digital audio support), 1 microphone jack
  • 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet

An integrated Acer Crystal Eye webcam delivers smooth video streaming and high quality images for online chats and business video conferences, even in low-light situations, so you can stay in touch with your family and friends wherever you are in the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Light, small, fast, long battery life 21 Aug 2010

This was bought to replace an HP Pavilion dv6600 that developed a disc fault and then expired completely. It is extremely fast, light and has a bright and easy to read screen. W7HP provides a very quick boot and makes good use of the memory and 4Gb SD card I installed for Readyboost. The black brushed aluminium is very nice to the touch. The keyboard looks a little different, but the keys are ok to use with no bounce for a heavy fingered person like me. My spec has the i5 430, chosen for energy efficiency with reasonable speed when needed. I didn't choose a dedicated graphics card as the machine is not used for gaming (other than online scrabble!). Highly recommended.

Previously I had a Toshiba Satellite, HP Pavillion, Dell Inspiron and a Dell XPS. I also used Sony Vaio E-series. This Acer is much nicer than all these laptops. For all those like me who think 15" are a bit too big and 10"-12" netbooks are too small and ineffective, this 14" Acer Aspire is a great option. It is very slim (disregarding Apple's Macbook). The build is quite solid and feels nice: the cover and bit next to the mouse-pad is dark brushed aluminum, the back is plastic but does not feel cheap. Overall, it feels fairly light and very mobile for a laptop of its size. The keyboard first looked a bit strange, but after an hour's use turned out to be comfortable. It also has dedicated Home/End/PgUp/PgDn keys which I appreciate as I use them quite frequently. The mouse-pad is larger than your average size, which after getting used to has really spoiled me (I don't like using other mouse-pads now :D). Its two keys are also nice to click with enough travel but without the loud clicking noise of other makes. The mouse-pad also recognises multi-fingertip gestures (to zoom in/out for example). The screen is very nice with crisp colors and sharp edges. The battery lasts a bit over 5 hours with WiFi on and full brightness. The speakers are quite decent for a laptop; none of the tinny noise from Dell.

There are a few issues with this laptop. The video card is quite humble, giving a maximum resolution of 1366x768. This is enough for my Web/documents use but might not be for others. The laptop also does not have a Bluetooth adaptor. It would've been sorely missed had it not been for the integrated multi-card reader. Finally, the laptop came loaded with Acer games on top of the usual rubbish 'free' applications. They are, however, easy to uninstall.

All in all a great laptop, but would've been a range leader with a better graphics card.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Laptop 16 Sep 2010

I have delayed upgrading my laptop for some time and I am glad I did!
The new technology in this Acer, combined with the light weight and slim profile are fantastic. The screen size and resolution are excellent and performance is fast, with good battery life.
I would certainly give this one serious consideration if you are in the market for a new laptop.

    4.0 out of 5 stars Acer Timeline 4820T 30 Oct 2010
I bought this two weeks back..and happy with the purchase as of now..I owned a dell before and the laptop use to heat up so much i cant rest my hand on keyboard and type long as you feel the heat in your wrist and the battery life was very poor. This laptop seems to tick all the boxes - slim, sleek, 4 hours battery life(with high power), good processor, looks stylish and weighs less..i am a hard core programmer and so far it has met all my expectations.i have branded it 4 as i have been using it only for two weeks now..the only problem i faced is the touchpad has a scroll bar inbuilt on the right side and i seem to go over it all the time and it resizes my screen..- just a design flaw i suppose...

1.0 out of 5 stars Acer support sucks -- BEWARE!!! 12 Oct 2010
Be aware that Acer offers abysmal support for its products in the UK -- NO TOLL-FREE number, limited hours and horrible support website with outdated drivers. I wish I never bought an Acer laptop.
