This review is from: Acer Aspire 5750z 15.6 inch Laptop (Intel Pentium B940 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD, DVD-Super Multi DL Drive, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit) (Personal Computers)
Had the laptop now for almost a week so of course I cannot comment on things like durability just yet. However, I can say some of my first impressions on this machine.Firstly the aesthetics; it looks very sleek with it's heavy duty black steel effect on the outside and textured inner surfaces. The area around the screen is very shiny which looks nice but can be frustrating when fingerprints are left there. The touchpad is very sensitive and has a separate scrolling section on the right hand side, while the numeric section on the far right of the keyboard was a nice surprise. The laptop is very light for something of it's size, i've had two 15.6 inch screen laptops before and this is by far the lightest of the three, it also has a remarkable battery life; running for up to 5 and a half hours on the most power saving mode with the screen dimmed. In terms of installed software it does not come with much but that seems to be a growing trend with laptops these days. It does come with a rudimentary version of Microsoft Office Word and Excel which are neither the full versions nor a trial and can therefore be used indefinitely if they are sufficient for your needs. The screen is impressively clear and deals with glare from sunlight or office lights very well, also giving a good range of viable viewing angles for when you are sharing a presentation or watching a movie in a group. The Dolby sound system is very helpful for this and can easily fill an average sized office room with enough sound that everyone can hear it. A couple of small issues I have come across would be the built in web cam, which claims to be HD but produces very poor quality images no matter how you alter the settings. Also the positioning of the input for the power cable on the left hand side of the laptop is a bit frustrating as it is right below the power button and requires a bit of force to plug in. I have accidentally pressed the power button while trying to connect the power cable more than once. All in all it seems like a good laptop, what remains to be seen is how long it can stay that way. I use my laptops near constantly during the day and the last two I have owned have been showing problems within 6 months and have needed replacing in less than a year. I will write another review (or edit this one) in 6 months time to make an update.
