**Just a side note here, since posting this review the price has went from £199 to near £250. Call me suspicious however there is no reason for that kind of hike. The price tag is now currently not worth it for this unit. I suggest therefore that any readers look towards something like the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, you are getting more for around that price. Whilst the Acer is really good value needs to be considered, so avoid at this price tag**

I bought this tablet for my daughter, I have an asus transformer however for a 14 year old that was not an option. I looked long and hard at budget tablets and it had to be a 10.1 inch screen as she is mostly going to use it for watching videos.

Really struggled choosing one, there are so many from as little as £80 right up to my maximum limit of £200.

First off here is why I went for the Aconia.

Processor:

It's an Nivida Quad Core, top quality and will handle whatever you throw at it from video to games and so on. Bags of power to keep the tablet running well.

Memory:

1GB DDR3, again latest memory type, 1GB is really a must when video is a prime factor in it's use and like a pc it gets bogged down with lots of apps running. The less memory the slower it will go.

Screen:

With 1280x800 screen resolution and also 1080 pixel High Definition it ticks all the boxes for watching videos, yes there are better but there are much, much worse!

Storage:

With 16gb of space to store things on it's decent but you can expand that to 32gb, perfectley good for my daughters needs.

Wi-fi:

802.11b,g and n, the n being important at many only have b and g.

Just adding a little to the excellent L Wisener review.
A quick warning in case it's not clear - there is only one forward facing camera. It does make you wonder about the photo and video software as all the pictures you can take are you looking at the screen!
Another item missing (and confirmed by Acer) is a compass. This means that programs relying on this, e.g. star charts won't work, which is a bit of a shame. Surprisingly perhaps, the GPS works well when you are outside.
Apart from that I really like the tablet. I find the screen resolution, brightness and colour quite adequate. It is responsive to screen gestures, and the accelerometer also hasn't disappointed. As it's mainly used for web browsing, films, games and reading , then it's excellent value and I'm not at all disappointed that I bought it.
One bonus is the micro SD card socket - not something you find on some far costlier and fruitier tablets.
The tablet also really benefits from having android 4.1, as the standard browser used to be frustratingly slow in 4.0, but is now fine.
BBC iPlayer, which is something else I use is a bit naff on Android - low resolution, video sound sync issues, and lack of storing programs off-line but I dare say that the BBC when they can spare some time from worshipping at the altar of Apple may improve this.
In case you wondered I wrote this review on it.

One year on now.
The tablet is still going strong, now the property of my wife, and she is extremely happy with it. I did have a new tablet which cost about the same (£200) but had a full HD screen, superior video playback and far superior iPlayer playback. Unfortunately everything else was worse and I have sent it back. Sadly, I don't think I could be happy with the Acer anymore.

2 Year Update
It's packed in now.

I was lucky enough to get mine for £200 at PC World when they still stocked them (it was £250 on here at the time. The price could well fall further). What's confused me is how factually incorrect most reviews of it are. The "trusted review" website is bad enough, but on here someone is saying you can't buy apps on Google Play (Yes you can) and that its missing a camera (no its not, its got the one its supposed to have that faces the user for skype etc.,. And do you actually use a tablet for taking pics? Thought not).

As for what its actually like, well its very good is what it is. I chose it over a Nexus 7 because I wanted to read comics (and needed a larger screen) and a Nexus 10 (because they were sold out and I wasn't comfortable with the idea of humphing something that expensive about, whereas this I use at home and for passing the time on the plane/in the airport when travelling for work).

More specifically, its really easy to pick up and use straightaway. The screen is what you'd expect (plus I've yet to encounter a film file format I can't get to play). The full size USB socket is fantastic and makes transferring files a doddle. Mine wouldn't recognise the 2 32g SD cards I tried, but did accept the 16gb one, so for no much extra its actually a 32gb machine. The processor means you get to play all the latest, tegra games and the build quality is good i.e. unlike a Samsung tablet it doesn't creak (or slip) when you pick it up. There's not too much bloatware on it. Battery life is fine (a few days between charges after reasonably heavy use and it charges v.quickly).Speakers are OK (those on my Wee Yin's Kindle Fire HD are a chunk better), but as I got a portable Bose speaker and it links to that perfectly (and quickly) they're no really an issue.
