5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Monitor 2 Feb 2011
I'm extremely happy with my purchase. Obviously, I can only comment on my own experience but I get no buzzing whatsoever. I'm running on 120 HZ all the time. This gives a supremely crisp picture quality and great colour rendering. The widescreen full HD is jaw droppingly good. I did a lot of research into 3D monitors and you're unlikely to find any other option for the same low cost. Awesome!

1.0 out of 5 stars How did Acer get it so wrong? 16 Sep 2010
I have had this monitor for a few days now and I can't believe it was allowed to be released ! I am sending it back. If you look on the internet for 'Acer GD245HQ Buzzing' you will find hundreds of other people who wish they hadn't bought this LCD. The sharpness makes text have a halo around it, you can't turn this off ! There is a feature called 'Over Drive' which causes weird colours on films/games at 60hz, you can't turn this off either ! (Unless you go into the system menu). But the real killer is the dreaded BUZZING, at 120hz it is audible over your 3D film/game. Unless you plan on having headphones on when you use this monitor in 120hz mode then stay away, there are MUCH better 3D monitors available.

The cross talk in 3D is more prevalent than my Samsung 2233rz but has less ghosting at the top and bottom (if you have used a first generation 3D monitor you will know what I mean).

I have gone back to my Samsung 2233rz, it is not 1080p or 16:9 but at least it doesn't sound like a fridge engine! Avoid.

The issues I have listed above are common knowledge with other users everywhere now, do yourself a favour and read all about how truly awful this monitor is before you spend your hard earned money. I also phoned Acers call centre in Ireland and was told that the monitor was fine, other users have had the same treatment, some have sent theirs back because of the buzzing noise and have either had it sent back with the buzzing still there or are still waiting up to 3 weeks later to even get a response.

I have never written such a scathing review before but I feel I must, even if you are the only person who takes my advice I will feel like I did my part.

Pros: It has HDMI, DVI and Analog ports.

Cons: Just about everything else is broken - it is almost like they sent it out with an April Fools firmware ! It is just plain broken. Words fail me.

By MyKeyReviews TOP 50 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
This monitor is one of the most coolest looking monitors out on the market, it's not the slimmest out there but it looks fantastic.

The problem with this monitor is that it produces the most annoying buzzing sound, sometimes I get it when even on the normal 60Hz refresh rate but it's not that loud when it does happen, it's when you have it on the 120Hz setting when the problem starts, the buzzing is so loud even with my speakers on I can still hear it, it's only when I'm displaying a very bright image the buzzing either stops or goes quiet, only too soon be returned when the screen goes slightly darker.

I had looked on different forums and I'm not the only person having this issue, then to top that when I went back to return this monitor the customer service guy said: "honestly, you're not the only who's had this problem, the back-light seems to be the issue.", so it seems like it isn't a minority having the same problem.

The annoying thing is this monitor had so much potential, the picture quality displayed was top-notch and really crisp, the 3D (using NVIDIA GeForce 3D Vision Kit - 3D glasses) was outstanding, but the buzzing overrules all the positives.

Until they can fix this problem, I would advise to avoid this monitor and look for another.

1.0 out of 5 stars Expensive and poor quality 26 Sep 2011
    Verified Purchase
Well where do i begin about this monitor.

The picture quality is very poor with rough edges to the text which varies from top to bottom, there is also a horrendous buzzing which changes in pitch depending on what's on screen at the time. You can even change the sound of the buzzing by moving browser screens for example around the monitor which is just ridiculous.

For the amount of money you have to pay for this it's a terrible monitor. I had also purchased the Asus VG236HE so had a good chance to put them side by side and my oh my, the Asus is cheaper and the picture quality of the Asus blows the Acer out of the water.

Take my advice, don't but this and buy the Asus VG236HE, you wont be disappointed.
