This is great!, 22 Jul 2008
I have had my aspire one for a few days now, and I am really pleased with it.
I bought this particular model as I needed a super portable laptop that was light and easy to use. The acer aspire one fits the bill perfectly.
The computer is so small and light that I can put it in my bag and take it anywhere with me, and the battery easily lasts 3 hours when I am out and aboout. Although the keyboard is small, it is not too small, it is still very functional and easy to type on. the keys are all spaced apart and have bevelled edges and I have not really ahd any difficulties using it, as this was one of my concerns. the only kepboard based criticism is that the quotation marks key and the at symbol are the wrong way round! however as I have used a macbook pro this was not really an issue. basically 2 is at and ' is ", if that makes sense.
the touchpad is ok as well, a little jumpy at times, but i have simply purchased a cheap usb wireless mouse. it is probably worth pointing out that I have a little trouble with most touchpads, not just this one.
the speakers are good too, i have had no trouble when listening to anything.
the linux operating system is also great - i was a little worried as I had never used linux before, but the open office software looks so similar to microsoft that I cannot imagine anyone would struggle with it, and everything I have saved so far has been compatible with my mac and my pc. the interface is pleasant and easy to navigate and the processor is suprisingly quick.
likewise, surfing the net is easy, there have been no problems there.
all in all this is a great little computer, and does everything i needed it to - web cam, skype, messenger, internet, email, and open office. plus there are some nifty games (i am already addicted to the free platform game and the bubble game).
I would recommend this product to anyone wanting a lightweight fully functional computer, I am really impressed and this product is better than expected.

What a great notebook., 22 Sep 2008
I bought the blue aspire with the 8gb SSD for my GF as an addition to a normal laptop.
I am so impressed with it.
The screen is superb, the thing is so light and the keyboard great to type on even with my man-sized hands.
Apart from these obvious features, the best thing about this is the operating system.
I'm a professional UNIX SA working with Sun Solaris and RHEL, and I bought an asus701 a few months back with the xandros o/s on it.
Well this Linpus o/s is sooooo much better. It is cleaner, faster and the included apps work far better.
Most people say the thing wrong with Linux is that in comparison to MSWindows, Linux does not work as well for multimedia applications, but this OS is better. Not just a little better, but way better than Windows or the xandros version on the asus, it's even easier and cleaner to use than Ubuntu!
If you want something fast, quiet, light, with a superb OS then don't even think about it, get the Acer Aspire one, but get the SSD version as the battery lasts longer and it is faster too.
The only things and yes there are 2 things I don't like, are:
1. There is no sleeve/case supplied with the machine, which is just ridiculous.
2. The power supply is the same size as a standard laptop, which means there is more to lug about with you, whereas the asus has the lovely little plug sized one.
Apart from those two points, this is by far the best "netbook" on the market.

Brilliant little netbook, I've had no troubles with it at all but for those users who needed to restore it, you don't have to buy a external DVD drive just create a restore memory stick from the restore DVD on another PC or Laptop.
Full instructions are on the aspire website.
