portable Ultra-portable
Weighing less than 1KG* and with dimensions that are smaller than the average diary, the Aspire One is fits into the palm of your hands, making it simple to carry by hand or even in a handbag.

Unique Aspire One Interface

One of the neatest features of the Aspire One is the unique operating system which is created on Linux Linplus. This simple-to-use system is based on clear icons, similar to a mobile phone system, which are launched by simply clicking on them, which makes it intuitive to use and simple to master.

Linplus Linux

Your primary interface is separated into 4 clear segments, Connect, Work, Fun and Files that combine to give you access to a whole host of tools to ensure you make the most of your mobility.

Connect Connect:
The Aspire One puts your favourite communication programs right on the home screen so you’re ready to connect to the web, email or chat on messenger within seconds of turning it on.

Work Work
For people who want to stay productive on the move, the Work section on the Aspire One has built in software that allows you to do everything from writing letters and doing basic spreadsheets to running a presentation. In the work section you can also access your contacts list, a calculator and a notes pad, giving you the flexibility you need.

Files Files
The files section of the interface gives you the ability to copy, share or access your files and folders simply and logically ensuring you are always in control.

Design Stylish Design
The Aspire One is an elegant and stylish netbook that features a stunning gloss cover in either seashell white or sapphire blue colours, so you can pick the version that suits your style and your personality.

Easy to Use Easy to Use
One of the key aspects to any Netbook is the keyboard size, too small and you can’t use it properly, too big and the whole system needs to be made bigger. Acer has managed to get a 95% keyboard into its 8.9 inch netbook, one of the largest for the size, making this netbook a pleasure to type on.

Connectivity Connectivity
Connectivity is vital with a netbook, both to the internet and to other devises. For strong internet connectivity Acer has both wired and wireless internet connectivity options. To connect to other devises there are 3 USB ports as well as VGA output and sharing data between devises is easy with the built in multicard reader.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best purchases I have made in years, 28 Feb 2009
By J. Brim (Surrey, UK) - See all my reviews

So I was getting fed up of lugging my 17" laptop up to uni 3-4 days a week to use it for working on and browsing the web to curve my boredom etc. and considered a netbook for some time.
When I saw the AAO I fell in love, it is much nicer than nearly all of its competitors and beats them all in terms of value for money.
It is so small and light and is yet still powerful enough to run nearly everything you want it to. Even the small keyboard is easy to adjust to.
A really convenient toy indeed.

I highly recommend upgrading the RAM with a 1gb stick to 1.5gb total and also getting rid of that horrible Linpus for another Linux distro (I am using Ubuntu).

There is also a lot of support for this machine on various websites which offer solutions to nearly all problems you may come across.

Don't be afraid to play around with it and really test it, it can handle a lot.

A must buy if you want a small, convenient and yet powerful netbook.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely bit of kit with a couple of reservations, 4 Jan 2009
By Kevin Watson (Hereford, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Shopped around for ages for something to replace my retired EEEpc 701 4G and this caught my eye. After some further reading this is the one I went for and Amazon was the cheapest. It duly arrived next day and after playing with the linux installation on it for 5 minutes, I hooked it up to an external cd drive and installed XP. As of now I am running a triple boot vista/xp/osx 10.5.6 installation (writing this review in vista on the aspire one) with around 40GB for each OS.
Anyone thinking of getting this I would strongly recommend that you upgrade the ram to its 1.5GB maximum (not an easy job as the machine needs to be stripped down) and if you can, replace the wireless mini pcie card with another (I use an apple branded broadcom one) as there are issues with the supplied atheros card and xp/vista. All in all this machine is great and I wouldnt hesitate to recommend it to anyone, but be prepared to open the case to allow it to reach its full potential. Lots of reading available at the excellent aspire one users forum []
