I bought a similar one 2 years ago (Acer Aspire 5755G 15.6 inch Laptop (Intel Core i7-2630QM Processor, 8 GB RAM, 750 GB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit)) which has been extremely good to me.

I bought this E1-572 for the wife and it is even better than my old one. Slightly slimmer and lighter despite the rubbish and scant specification details on the Amazon website. In fact I got more information from the Which web site although that model only had 4GB of RAM. This may have improved by now.

At the time I bought this model there were no reviews at all on Amazon so I was a bit wary but based on my experience with my existing Acer Aspire I took the plunge.

Similar to mine the screen viewing angle is not brill - better than mine but nothing compared to a iPad screen (and probably a Mac too). Still fine. It isn't the shiny surface of case that mine has but does pick up a few finger prints but nothing to worry about.

So far no issues - fast and everything works well.

Probably the only minor gripe I have is the touch pad. It is not that responsive to scrolling by sliding your finger down the right hand side. Also allows for 2 finger zooming and scrolling but again not brill at all. I think my old laptop is better for the touch pad althoghI like the rough feel of the new touch pad. This might be adjustable - I will try to resolve it but with a cheap wireless Logitech M305 mouse you would never care anyway.

My recommendation from using my Acer (and I have set the wife's up the same) is change what happens when you close the lid and the power buttons.
Power button - set this to shut the PC down.

This is a brilliant laptop with a huge hard drive. I have all the files and photos from an XP desktop and a Vista laptop backed up on the 1Tb drive and I still have 700GB free space! The speed is good too and it boots up very quickly.
I use this mainly for storing photos, internet and family tree research it is compatible with Family Tree Maker 2012 and Office 2007.
Don't be put off by Windows 8.1, the desktop is still there and the Start button is back, along with the close and minimise button for programmes (apps). I work from the desktop and only use the Apps when I need to. I moved from a laptop running Vista to Windows 8.1 and found it to be very straightforward.
I'm glad they included a USB 3 port as this makes data transfer very fast. I prefer to use a mouse so cannot comment on the tracker pad.
The first time you turn it on allow plenty of time to go through the set up process - nothing scary, just a bit time consuming (probably the same for all new laptops). After that it is almost an instant start up.
We were so impressed with this laptop that my husband bought one too.

So far so good, but Windows 8 takes some time to get used to (at my age! 50+). Smart, fast and keys need only a light touch

I bought several Acer Aspires for my company via PC world (sorry Amazon definitely wont happen again!). We have found that most of the power transformer leads have failed but the worse issue is the keyboards which are of very poor quality. If you type any long script you will find a missing letter every fifth or sixth word, it is so frustrating, I now use a HP which is just fine and the keyboard feels so much better. I returned one of the Acer laptops to PC World. They sent it back to Acer and several weeks later it came back from them with a note saying there was nothing wrong with the keyboard. No one in my office would agree with that!! On the basis that their keyboards are useless and they are unable to identify this, I would suggest you steer well clear of this brand. (there were 12 missing letters from the script in this review when I checked it)

A good all round notebook for work use. Acer are a solid brand, better than most and no worse than many. The notebook itself would be better if at least two of the USB ports were 3.0 (only one is). Windows 8.1 is a joke and the fact that you are forced to sign up to the Microsoft cloud if you want to download software just means that I will either do without or find an altenative source.

have just bought an acer e1-572 as my five year old acer is starting to show it's age.
I am not computer literate; needed e-mails via the old pc to set the new one up and just pressed the enter buttons to set up as standard without customising.
I knew that this would give me a few things I wouldn't use; including a "sign-in" password but it also gave me some things I definitely did not want;
a, a malware called "pc healthkit" which tried to tell me I'd got loads of naughty things and needed to sign up to them to clear it; don't, use the free "malawarebytes" or another malaware-killer to get rid of it.
b,a pc backup by "jdi"; this isn't malware but it is a flippin' nuisance, so if you don't want it, a google will tell you how to get rid!

felt other people should know what happened to me, hope nothing else is lurking!
