5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, 19 Oct 2009

This review is from: Acer Aspire 5738Z (15.6-inch LED, Intel Pentium Dual Core, 2.0 GHz, 3 GB RAM, 160 GB, DVD-RW, Vista Home Premium, Dolby Sound, WiFi) (Electronics)
I have always been a big acer fan; they make some brilliant machines at very low-end market prices. Although they are a usually a lot cheaper, you do definitely not loose any of the high quality computing power. This laptop is based at mid range users, ideal for internet and email usage, but also very capable of document creating, downloads etc. The only problem you may have with the laptop is gaming capabilities. I have not tried any games, but the specification and previous experience with similar machines suggests so.

However, on to the positives. The processor is very much capable of basic tasks, with a very quick response time. This is due to the intel processor (CPU) have a very quick speed of 2.0GHz (the speed at which is can perform operations) and this is also combined with the 3GB of RAM memory to maximize its potential speed. The hard drive is 160gb, which is a lot of songs, roughly 40,000, but can be quickly filled up if other files or videos are also been stored. It does however, run at a fast speed, so copying and transferring data doesn't take you all day to do!

The new screen technology, becoming more popular in the market is called LED. This is fantastic for viewing photos and videos, as it is a lot brighter and sharper for still and moving images. It also uses less power from the battery, hence allowing a longer battery life. The battery life is around the 2 and half hour mark on average usage, so isn't the best, but is very good compared to similarly priced laptops.

I have been very happy with this laptop and would definitely recommend it to anybody!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great laptop, 5 Nov 2009

I bought this as my 8 year old dell was just getting too slow for my wife to "facebook" properly, and I had bought a higher spec Acer for myself a year ago. My Acer has had 1 problem in the year, and that was fixed very quickly under warranty. Hence buying another Acer machine at a great price from Amazon. It has a great screen, has plenty of features and power for most things - and it keeps the wife happy whilst i'm playing WoW - perfect.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice kit, fair price, 3 Dec 2009

A great first laptop if you like the widescreen which does take a bit of getting used to.
Screen viewing angles are the least impressive aspect; keyboard is spacious but flat keys could be better. Touchpad is very useable.
Built in speakers are acceptable for having music on in background, as long as you are not listening intently.
Performance is good; the data transfer speeds of the USB2.0, the DVD player and WiFi are impressive, and make a fantastic difference compared to my 3yo Mesh desktop.
It does everything expected and more.
Only niggle: bring back printed instruction books.
