Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The Acer Aspire 5536 range has been designed for everyday home users that want a portable PC with the multitasking performance of dual core processors and comprehensive multimedia features, all housed in a good looking design which won’t look out of place in any home.

Acer Aspire chassis detailDesign
The Aspire 5536 features an attractive glossy sapphire blue cover that looks both classy and distinctive. On the inside, the floating keyboard makes typing easier, reducing the chance of “typos” by providing a clear separation between the keys. The power on switch is illuminated in a bright blue neon light, showing the performance waiting within - this contrasts neatly with the dark grey Neoweave palm rest, designed to reduce fingerprint smudges and create a classy environment to enjoy your work and play.

Crystal Clear Visuals
A lot of attention has been paid to the visual display of this laptop. Featuring a high definition 15.6” widescreen with 16:9 aspect ratio ensures it will deliver stunningly bright and lifelike images, ideal for enjoying high definition content.
The screen also features CineCrystal™ technology for intense colour saturation, superior contrast ratio and sharp photo images making image reproduction clearer and movies and photos more enjoyable.

All Encompassing Audio
Great multimedia is not just about the visuals, you also need great audio! The Aspire 5536 features the latest 3rd Generation Dolby Home Theater® technologies for virtual 5.1 surround sound, which delivers a vivid audio experience to music, movies, and games, either through the speakers or headphones.

Touchpad movement examples, including scroll and zoomFinger Tip Control
Technology is only useful if you can make it work for you, and the Aspire 5536 keeps you in control.

The new multi-gesture touchpad lets you navigate, scroll and zoom with ease. By doing a circular motion you can simply scroll up and down an image or file for seamless navigation. Want to zoom in and out? All you need to do is a pinch action to zoom in and the reverse to zoom out. And finally, to change pages or skip through a set of photos simply swipe your fingers across the pad, it could not be easier.

To ensure you do not disrupt your movie or games by accidentally moving the cursor, Acer have built in a button by the touchpad that will disable the touchpad to prevent this happening.

On the top left of the keyboard is the easy launch buttons for Wireless and the Acer Back Up key, which allows you to duplicate files to another location quickly and easily.

On the top right of the keyboard is the Programme Key, this allows users to create a shortcut to their chosen application, keeping you in control and making your computer work for you.

WiFi Draft N certified -- SignalUp technologyComplete Connectivity
Notebooks excel on their connectivity, and the Aspire 5536 does not let you down.

Connectivity to the internet is available via Gigabit LAN, the fastest LAN connection available or wireless 802.11a/b/g/Draft-N, the latest wireless standard. To enhance the wireless signal on this notebook Acer include Acer SignalUp technology which uses a high performance PIFA wireless antenna and optimises the location of the antenna on the notebook giving exceptional wireless performance.

For the money, this laptop offers amazing value. I installed a version of Vista Home Premium on mine and it is very speedy, and runs the Aero Glass interface just fine.

The graphics card is a ATI HD3200 which isn't listed on the specification sheet, but it is one of the best integrated graphics available, and will display HD video, and has a HDMI port so you can connect to your HD television.

Someone else wrote about the lousy keyboard - it's actually very good and although the spacing is quite wide, the keys have a good feel.
The touchpad is quite large, but this is not a bad thing, and the touchpad buttons have a good feel as well.

The only bad thing about this laptop is the relatively noisy fan. It is on constantly, and is quite noisy when doing intensive tasks, such as viewing video or installing programmes. However, it does keep the laptop cool so I can't complain too much.

The volume from the speakers is very loud if you uncheck the box that says "limited output" in the device settings, and the speakers are quite good for laptop speakers, as they include Dolby enhancements.

The screen is nice and bright, evenly lit and has good colour reproduction. As it is 16:9 aspect ratio, it is able to display TV programmes and some films without any black bars - perfect for iPlayer.

For the money, I don't think you can complain. It is not the most powerful of laptops, and the battery life is only around 2 hours, but I don't think you'll find a better made laptop with all the features this one has for the money - just remember to remove all the Acer software that comes with it to keep it running smoothly!

I received this laptop about a week ago and I have got to say that I absolutely love it. It is really fast and is very much for people who want to run different programs at the same time. It does not take ages like my previous Dell laptop. Excellent value for the low price I paid. Only one thing I would have wanted is a webcam. This model does not have a webcam despite it being in the picture. That is the only reason I have not given it a 5 stars. I would definately advise you to buy this if you are looking for an upgrade.

if you in the market for a new laptop buy this one, the build quality is excellent, its fast has great sound and a very sharp screen, if i had a complaint it would be Acer has put too much pre loaded software on it but to be fair this can be removed easy.
Delivery from Amazon was 1st class came next day after ordering.

I love this laptop! I have had numerous Acers in the past and swear by them. This laptop is stylish and fast. Love the blue lid, the lovely sharp screen, the touchpad etc, etc. Have had no problems with it running hot (a comment on another site) the battery lasts over 2.5 hours as long as you set the power saving correctly, the keypad is fine (a little difficult to clean between keys perhaps). No drawbacks at all so far. Very happy with it. Sadly sometimes laptops are DOA (I am an IT technician in a repair shop)so don't let the negative comments about this laptop put you off. It is great for the money (and I spent a lot of time researching this as of 28/7/09).

I've had this Acer for about two weeks now. First, the negative points: the build quality isn't up to much, I think its very plasticy and flimsy. The CD tray feels very loose when it is open and I don't think the laptop would survive even the smallest drop or impact from having something heavy place on top of it. I didn't like the finger pad, but solved that with a £5 usb mouse. The positives: it requires no effort at all to get it working out of the box. Plug in the power, switch it on and off you go. All the software is pre-installed, no disks, although there's a lot of programs that you find yourself removing later. It connected to my home wireless network with out any problems so far - I've read a few horror stories online about automatic updates causing havoc with IE, but I haven't suffered any of these yet. The screen is very good - you can quite happily watch DVDs on it, I've seen worse LCD TV's! I liked the keyboard - it has a great finger feel and is almost like a full size desk top keyboard. Performance wise, so far its been very reliable. I mainly use it for the internet, running Audacity and multi-media applications, all of which it handles well. I can happily run two programs at a time. It uses about 2.8gb of the 3gb of RAM which is fairly decent, and compared to my ancient Dell is very speedy. It has a HDMI out (for HD video) which is very useful as this is becoming something of a standard connection now, and means you can connect it to most new plasma and LCD screens. Also it has a line in audio connection as well as the microphone. This means that, if like me, you want to record into your laptop (I'm archiving all my vinyl records using Audacity) you get a properly balanced true stereo recording with out having to buy an expensive audio card.Read more ›

This is a fantastic laptop, especially considering it costs less than £350.

Its ideally suited as a budget desktop replacement as you can get a better portable machine for the same money but it won't be as well specified.

    GOOD POINTS;
The specification is great for the money and it starts up, operates multiple programmes and shuts down very quickly.
The screen is very good and the shiny coating has not bothered me at all, although I only use it around the house and could imagine that in direct sunlight it could be a problem.
I like the strange keyboard design although I would recommend going to Comet or PC World if you can to try it for yourself as each key is flat and 'floats' above the base and the keys need a positive tap to avoid missed characters.
The large touchpad is great and you can fly up and down a long webpage and magnify pages easily with a fingerstroke. obviously you can go into touchpad options and set up the touchpad/pointer to suit your own needs.
Wifi was very easy to set up for me as I use a Buffalo router with AOSS which just requires you to press a button on the router then click on the AOSS button in the software on the laptop and all the settings and security are sorted out for you. Buffalo says they cannot guarantee their 'Client Manager V' software will work with other makes of wifi card under Vista but I can say it works 100%.
As with most laptops the base gets very hot in certain areas but I haven't found it too uncomfortable, though My wife has to sit it on a pillow. It certainly isn't any worse than other laptops I've used before but its worth bearing in mind as you can get much cooler running machines.
