What a bargain! 2 Dec 2008
By P. Wareing TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
The is the best budget value laptop I have seen in a while. Acer, who are becoming more reliable, and popular and selling this machine ridiculously cheap. With a good sized screen, the machine copes well with a good processor, intel core 2 duo, and with more than enough RAM to run windows vista premium edition. This however can be upgraded if needed in future, with a new RAM memory for about £20 per GB. The hard disk has 250GB memory, but after windows being loaded on etc, it comes to about 238GB. Still more than enough though. However, like myself who almost got caught out, making a back up disk is essential. I recommend that this is the first thing you should do out of the box as it does not come with one.

This is a very good value laptop and is still relatively up to date in terms of laptops.

Another great Acer laptop!
First impressions were good - looks good, good keyboard, nippy performance.
There was a problem with the power supply which kept cutting out, but Amazon sent a replacement laptop without a fuss which arrived a a few days later.
The replacement machine has no issues and is working well.
In common with most consumer PCs these days, no Windows installation media is included. One of your first tasks therefore should be to burn two DVDs which form your Windows recovery discs. (Instructions are included.)
The machine is loaded with McAfee Security software on 60-day trial & you can activate a 90-day trial of Office 2007.
Also on the machine is a large amount of Oberon Media's games as demoware. Personally I find that annoying and spent a few minutes removing it all.
Overall this is a good piece of kit - and at the time I bought it (mid December 2008) it was good value for money. However, with the January sales in full swing, there are better machines available now for the same price give or take a few pounds.

Acer Aspire 5920 17 Sep 2010
I bought an Acer Aspire 5920 for home use in January 2009, just for internet browsing, banking and uploading and storing photos. I made my choice of this lap-top based in part on it being the best seller at the time with a 5 star rating. However this has proved to be a complete and utter folly as just after the 12 month mark of ownership the screen began flickering, I have since learned that this is a very common problem with this make. Only when the planets are in alignment will the screen sit still. You can read all about it on various forums and even try to fix it yourself. I believe an lcd cable has to be replaced between the keyboard and the screen, but how long you get out of that would be questionable - as it is a design fault. The battery is also very poor and can cause the machine to shut-down without warning.

In short do yourself a favour, don't always use a five star rating to confirm your thoughts on a purchase. Don't ever short change yourself, when looking for a lap-top - buy Apple, Dell, Sony or Toshiba, do not ever buy an Acer.

flickering screen a pain
Within a year the screen had started flickering. I sent it back and Acer had a good system to do so but still a pain to be without the laptop and shouldn't happen.
