Unreliable, 30 Mar 2010
This review is from: Acer Aspire One 751, 11.6-Inch HD LED Netbook, Intel Atom Z520, 1.22 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB, XP Home, up to 7 Hours Battery Life, Webcam, Wifi (White) (Electronics)
I bought the Acer Aspire in order mainly to stay in contact whilst away from home, so it was to be principally used for Skype and to email. The first one I got lasted no more than a week before it had a major failure, bringing up a 'disc-read error' message at boot-up. I returned it to Amazon (no problem with them by the way, they are excellent) and it was replaced. The replacement boots OK but is amazingly slow; the Skype test programme says that 'your computer is very slow and you may not be able to make calls.....' A call to Acer brought the advice to re-configure the computer which dumps all your add-ons and re-sets the factory settings. I did that but there was no improvement in speed and now the computer freezes up from time to time. The cursor is immobile and no keystroke or combination, including ctl/alt/del has any effect, the only solution being to hold down the on/off switch until merciful oblivion occurs.
I'll try Acer again but to be frank this should not happen in this day and age and I strongly advise against buying Acer, I know I won't be.

Awesome netbook, but lacks processor speed, 23 Mar 2010
This review is from: Acer Aspire One 751, 11.6-Inch HD LED Netbook, Intel Atom Z520, 1.22 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB, XP Home, up to 7 Hours Battery Life, Webcam, Wifi (White) (Electronics)
This is a great little netbook. The keys on the keyboard are the perfect size and very comfortable to use. The overall size and weight of the netbook make it very convenient to carry around whilst still having a sturdy feel. The 7 hour battery life gives me over 5 hours of 'heavy' use, but will probably reach 6 hours with a dimmed screen and lighter use. Screen quality/resolution is quite sharp and decent enough to to watch movies.
The downside: The Atom Z520 processor is a bit of a crawler, and most of the time it lets you wait a little too long for programs to load, or windows to boot up. It easily gets killed when loading multiple applications, especially since I still use it with the default Windows XP - I bet a lightweight Linux installation would make it more bearable. I've seen versions of this netbook being sold with Win7 - I'd say forget that, Win7 needs more than an Atom Z520 with 1GB of RAM!
You might say a netbook is not supposed to do desktop work. You are right, however you will also feel the lack of processor power when you browse YouTube or other sites containing Flash based vidoes since running Flash makes the Atom sweat. Most of the time this results in jerky videos, even if you're just browsing YouTube without doing anything else.
But overall given the price of this netbook I'd say go for it if you're just after a very portable machine for internet browsing, basic word processing and webmail.
