Excellent machine, but only once you patch it,

This review is from: Acer Aspire 8735G, 18.4inch HD LCD, Notebook, 4GB DDR3, 500GB (5400RPM), Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 (2.2 GHz), NVIDIA GeForce GT 240M (1 GB DDR3 VRAM), Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bt (Electronics)
The machine I had would randomly crash when copying files from a USB stick - a quick search on the ACER website found a BIOS update which promptly fixed this and now a really excellent machine.
Only 4 stars because of this extra hurdle I really shouldn't have had to do

A dream, screen, computing machine,

Make no mistake - this is a very good laptop. It's top stuff - all the spec is brilliant and should meet your multi-media needs (although read it up before-hand#. I especially like the large screen which is clear and HD #Watching DVD's or movie clips is very good#, Windows 7 OS which is better than Vista from what I've experienced so far, and the graphics card which could run the latest computer games on the market. Also, general ease of access from the word go; the normal installation, updates and registration that I've come to expect wasn't half as bad as I expected. Indeed, performance is 'up there', so I can't really fault the product, hence my 5-star rating.
Of course, this review isn't without it's small negatives. Just a few things that I found annoying for what I use it for and what I was expecting. Firstly, here on Amazon, the pictures attatched to the product imply that the disc drive is a Blu-Ray player (If you use the 'zoom' feature on a picture, you'll see what I mean). It's not. And fair enough, it's not listed on the spec either, but then, a more accurate photo surely is in order. I was secretley hoping it was going to arrive 'as pictured', but it didn't. DVD-RW only, no Blu-Ray ROM. Also, the pointing device (the 'mouse' on the pad on the machine) has a default setting so that it stops working if a key on the keyboard is pressed - so the keyboard and mouse doesn't work simultaneously. Considering this laptop is used for entertainment and multi-media this suprised me. Any 'First person shooter' type video game where the need to move and change direction/look at the same time (which is most of them) is ruined by this, very suprising default setting. Having recently bought the latest 'Aliens vs predator' game I was pleased the laptop had the high spec needed to run the game, but got frustrated very quickly when my character got killed at the first attack when I couldnt move because I had just looked in a direction. Not good. I've sought technical support to turn this setting off, but have heard nothing back, and I can't figure it in the control panel options. I'm yet to find a solution. So, overall: As long as you read the small print, and you're not too bothered about gaming - this will be perfect for you.

Better than I expected.,

The only problem, as mentioned on other reviews is: you can`t use the keyboard and the pointer at tbe same time, so its bad for gamers, but if you use an external mouse(like I did) its possible to play normaly.
