4.0 out of 5 stars Fast machine but.. 26 Mar 2010
Took an age sorting out which laptop to buy. This is easy to set up once you get it (aside from having to burn 3 recovery disks which is somewhat tiresome) and it really does fly. The downside is that there's only 2 USB ports (for those odd times you need more than 2) and no Bluetooth. Also, it's a hassle that there is no indication if your Caps Lock is on (when doing passwords) and although there's a webcam, there is no microphone! Just how nuts is that! Windows 7 is really pretty good (why they bothered with Vista is amusing) and I bought the discounted MS Office for Home, and as it has a trail pre-installed on this machine I just popped in the serial numbers so didn't have to sit through that install!

Huge disk and lots of RAM (4GIG), and a very good keyboard. If it had the microphone and maybe 4 USB's and Bluetooth, it would be 5 star. I knew of course about only 2 USB's and no bluetooth, but as it had a webcam I assumed it had a microphone as well! Silly me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Acer Aspire 5532 26 Mar 2010
I just bought this laptop and am using it at the moment. It has extremely fast program running, 4GB of RAM, haven't experienced any problems with it in 4 days. If you are looking to run decent games this laptop works well I have ran a few low spec games including oblivion and grand theft auto and it runs fine. May not run on higher demanding games such as MW2 though so look out.

The battery is short if using a demanding program may last 2 hours until it dies, however I keep it plugged in for the added back light anyway. It took me around 5 minutes to actually UN-box the laptop, it contained 3 boxes until the box with the laptop, which the contains power cable, instructions, 1 year warranty and laptop itself with a few vouchers and leaflets.

From laptop start-up to internet browsing in 3 minutes! First time start-up makes you provide basic details such as name country etc. then has a wireless option just choose the hub and tap in the security key and your done. Windows 7 is smooth and very well constructed and easy to customize ever for new computer users, the acer comes installed with windows live, including messenger and movie maker. The laptop gives a few trails and a bit of bloat-ware which can be easily deleted.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND BACKING UP THE LAPTOP, YOU WILL NEED BLANK DISCS AT LEAST 3 FOR THE BASIC RUN. Doing this can let you restore or re format your drive at a later date, if you do it now it will be faster and only have the programmes that laptop needs or is windows, instead of loads of unnecessary programmes.

The web cam on this laptop is top notch and has a built in back light so when all light is turned off it still provides full vision of your face and body. The 5532 doesn't burn up your lap like some laptops as all heat escapes from a back vent, it has 2 usb's nicely placed on the left side with the audio, microphone, Ethernet and charge port too. The touch pad is good quality however if you are going to game I recommend plugging in an external mouse as it is way easier, also the keyboard has a great feel and comes with a number pad.

I would say this Acer is the best laptop under £400 without a doubt and very good for casual and frequent users alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Laptop considering the price 2 Jun 2010
Well, I bought this Acer about 2 months ago. My past experiance with Acers would equal none, however I did ask around, view different reviews of past Acers, etc and a lot of people have noted that Acers have a tendancy to blow up within the first few weeks of purchase, the fans in particular have a tendancy to commit suicide. HOWEVER, I can happily tell you that in the time I've had this laptop it has not tried to commit harikari(that's probably the wrong spelling, but you get the idea) on me. It stays pretty cool all the time (even when I leave it on all night for downloads), and even the battery charger on the plug stays cool all the time.

My main usage for this Laptop is to play online games, though I know it wasn't build for that so the paragraph below will concern users who wish to play online games on a Laptop without having to pay through the nose.

Tested Games: World of Warcraft (with Lich King expansion), Champions Online.
It runs WoW (World of Warcraft) extremely well, and Champions Online runs superbly without having to sacrifice the graphics much at all, both games run without lag, For WoW fans, you can happily run around in Dalaran with "view distance" and "character detail" on max and you can still move! As for Champions Online, you can run the character detail design to near full so you can see you're customised characters really well. I can fly around Millenium City without much lag, but my view distance needs to be kept low for this.

Other Features:
The laptop runs the internet pretty well, no bad notes to make about it. The webcam is the Crystal Eye, which is supposed to be very good but I haven't tested that out as such. The Acer comes with the usual bulk programs and games which took me about half an hour to delete and get my own stuff onto it, which was nice. The initial setup (getting your name and country on) took about 5minutes using the usual settings.

Bad Features:
Well, as already stated I've only had this laptop for 2 months. Considering the only things I'd previously heard about Acers is that they blow up, I'm pleased to say that there is only 1 bad feature I can say about this particular model; and that wouldd be the touch pad. It works really well the majority of the time, but occasionally it becomes really unresponsive, slowing down considerably for no reason and during one session stopped working altoghether. The laptop comes with a touchpad disabling/enabling button, (which is to the left of the on/off button) pressing that button on and of is usually enough to make the touchpad responsive again, but as I've said one time it stopped responding completely, and pressing the touchpad button on/off couldnt even make it work again. I had to use the keyboard shortcuts to restart my laptop, but gladly after the restart it worked again and I havent had a situation like that arise since. The slow-downy-ness of the touchpad only really occures a few times a week, and in the last two weeks hasn't happened at all. This leads me to believe that it may just be my particular model that has this fault, as I havent heard anything about it from other people/reviews with the same problem.

Anyway, overall I gave this model 5 stars, because I do LOVE IT. Its got a beautiful design and so far its ran everything I've wanted it to without trouble (or complaint!) If you're looking for a laptop to run online games on, but don't want to pay the enormous price tag proper gaming laptops want you to pay, then this is the laptop for you!
