Weighing just over 1.4Kgs and measuring 1.2 inches slim, the Acer Aspire 1810T makes it easy to roam the globe with a powerful PC. It includes a 6-cell battery that provides up to 6 hours of continuous use and a vividly colorful 11.6-inch LCD screen as well as an HDMI port for connecting it to an external monitor or HDTV for viewing presentations and movies. Presented in a stylish diamond black case, the thin and light Aspire 1810T also features a full-size keyboard and Acer's ComfyTouch technology, which uses an innovative Laminar Wall Jet Engine design to air-cool the processor and notebook case.

Acer Aspire 1810 chassis

Stylish in Diamond Black, Sapphire blue and
Ruby Red, the Aspire 1810 also keeps you powered
for up to 6 hours of battery life.
A Multi-Gesture Touchpad enables you to pinch, flick and swirl your fingers across the touchpad for more natural photo and video viewing as well as intuitive navigation of websites. The Multi-Gesture Touchpad allows you to scroll, zoom in and out and flip through web pages, photos, spreadsheets and more. An integrated Acer Crystal Eye webcam delivers smooth video streaming and high quality images for online chats and business video conferences, even in low-light situations.

Other features include Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) Intel processor, Draft-N Wi-Fi networking, and a multi-format memory card reader.

Key Features
Key feaures for the Aspire 1810 include a 11.6-inch LED-backlight widescreen display with 1366 x 768-pixel resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio and 200-nit high brightness. The processor is an energy efficient 1.4 GHz Intel with ultra-low voltage that uses only 5.5 watts of energy--less than 1/10 that of a normal desktop processor--for extended battery life. This is augmented by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD with up to 1700 MB of shared video memory and support for DirectX 10 games.
Control is provided by a multi-gesture touchpad, supporting circular-motion scrolling, pinch-action zoom, page flip and more, whilst the thermal-efficient cooling innovation ensures the notebook achieves comfortable skin temperature during use. You can keep in touch using the Crystal Eye webcam, which supports Acer PrimaLite technology. This consists of a premium sensor, firmware and lenses to provide superior video performance under low-light conditions. A built-in digital microphone helps keep background noise levels low and minimizes echoes.

Networking, Connectivity & Expansion

Acer Aspire 1810 keyboard

The Aspire 1810's full-sized
keyboard (blue model shown).
With its integrated Draft-N Wi-Fi networking capabilities, this laptop provides up to five times the performance and twice the wireless range using 802.11n-compatible routers as you would with 802.11g networks. It's also backward compatible with 802.11b/g networks (commonly found at Wi-Fi hotspots and in older home routers) as well as 802.11a networks (which has a higher throughput, but more limited range--great for closed office environments). This notebook also provides ultra-fast Gigabit Ethernet networking (10/100/1000).

This laptop also includes 3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players. The single HDMI output is ideal for connecting to a compatible HDTV or home theater receiver for uncompressed digital audio and video via a single cable. There is also one analog VGA output, a 5-in-1 card reader, one headphone and one microphone jack, and a 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet port

And the LED backlight technology is 33 percent more energy efficient than standard CCFL LCD screens. Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD, which uses shared video memory (providing up to 1700 MB of video memory as allocated by the system memory). This graphics card is built with Intel Clear Video technology, which delivers clearer, more detailed images by eliminating many of the jagged edges and video artifacts seen when viewing interlaced content and features powerful color control to ensure videos are not too dark, overly bright, or washed out.

Well, three 5 stars reviews in a row so far... so here is the fourth :)
I have a 3 year old laptop which is slow and noisy and not so portable anymore.
I was getting frustrated because my productivity was low and wanted something I could use anytime/anywhere without spending too much. I needed something light, screen size between 10' and 13', battery for at least 6 hours. Netbooks seemed the better option and being very thorough I shortlisted some but none was perfect. What some had in portability and battery life others lacked in screen size or power. I had a bitter taste in my mouth because none was perfect. I went to pcworld to make a decision and was going to buy either the Samsung N110 or the N510 but to my surprise there it was... the Acer 1810TZ.

Looking at the features, looks and price it ticked all the boxes I needed. I couldn't believe it and went home to read some reviews, everything was good and the only things that the reviews criticized was that CPU power and graphics were not great compared to current laptops and even netbooks with nvidia ion chipset. As I just wanted a machine to work I did not bother with that so that same day went back to pcworld but it was out of stock, ordered same day from amazon. I am absolutely in love with it, it is literally changing my life since day one, I take it with me anywhere, even around the house. And the best thing is that I do not feel that lack of power (pretty fast so far), specially comparing to my old laptop. If you want power and the same features you would need to buy an ultraportable which is very expensive so I do not understand the criticism.

Highlights:
Looks and choice of 3 colours.

I purchased this item on friday 30/10/09 from my local PC World as Amazon were showing out of stock at the time otherwise I would have purchased from here without a doubt. In my opinion, the best online shopping site there is!!

On to the product.... I have used this intensely over the weekend (approx 8 hours both days)and have been very impressed with it. Set up and start up were quick and easy, it picked up 6 possible WiFi connections in a matter of seconds (my old laptop only ever found 3 max) and I was online in no time at all.

Once online webpages loaded quickly and clearly, no sideways scrolling was needed at all on any page and text was big enough and clear enough to read comfortably.

The dual core processor coped comfortably with having 6 or 7 browser windows open and running streaming video from the likes of you tube with no hesitation or pauses.

Battery life is excellent, from a full charge it was quoting me 9 hours on the taskbar, although I would say with running multiple windows and videos for long periods of time this was actually more like 4 or 5 hours. Still very respectable considering the workload in my opinion.

When I started out looking for a portable laptop several months ago to replace my 15.6" beast I was looking at netbooks but was dismayed by the negative reviews for much more than sending email or browsing simple webpages and have been seaching for a suitable machine ever since. I thought I was going to have to make do with a Samsung NC20 for a while until I spotted the Acer 1410 and 1810, it seemed like Christmas come early.

This notebook is one of a new range of ultra-low voltage based CPU machines. It is not much bigger then some of the larger netbooks with its 11.6" screen and has a decent battery life "upwards of 5 hours". I bought it to replace my EEE PC 901 which had a similar battery life but much lower performance, the dual core CPU in this machine really makes a difference over the single core Atom found in most current netbooks. This means that video based sites like Youtube will playback smoothly even in HQ without needing a discrete graphics card and software support, the all round performance increase thanks to the CPU makes it worth it over a netbook with the new ION chipset in my opinion. At £ 449.99 its not much more then a standard notebook which has poorer battery life, I think this bridges the gap between netbook and notebook as it fits into both categories.

I wont repeat many positive things others have said about this laptop.

Its pretty nippy I find, handles everything I need to and as a web developer I can even develop from it using the supplied version of Windows. To my surprise Home Premium includes Internet Information web server so that was a positive surprise.

The one negative is something that I hadn't even thought of checking. This laptop contains no expansion PCI express card slot! This is my 6th laptop and its the only one never to have an expansion card. I've even had other Acer's of the same size and they always had card slots. This isn't a super cheap atom based computer so I would really have expected this! Its not the end of the world and I should have checked this before buying naturally. However I thought I would mention for anyone that this might be an issue.

My plan had been to use an existing PCI express card to add eSata functionality to the laptop as I have a large number of external eSata devices.

Otherwise, a great laptop!

UPDATE: April 2014; I'm still using this laptop as a device when travelling and it functions fantastically. I replaced the hard drive (very easy to do and accessible from bottom of the device) with a cheap-ish SSD drive and it now flies faster than ever. Even with very demanding programs open and multitasking a lot, thanks to the SSD the swap files don't slow the drive down and it just flies. I've been able to use the laptop with the latest Photoshop CC for my work and its really quite usable! This was really a great rugged laptop, not that light but robust and working great. Well done Acer.
