Setting:
The year is 1776 and the North American continent is in a state of turmoil. A Declaration of Independence absolving all allegiances to the British Crown is expected imminently from the United States Patriots, with enormous consequences. One place already feeling the effects is the nearby Caribbean, where a fragile truce between rival pirate warlords is on the verge of collapse. These problems are due to be addressed at this year's Pirate Council Annual General Meeting, soon to be held at the Jolly Roger Inn, Port Royal, Jamaica. However, as the ships arrive in port, the town is stunned by the murder of Captain William Kidd, a powerful pirate warlord, who is found with his throat cut, on the steps of George III House, the Governor of Jamaica's residence. That initial shock is soon replaced by bewilderment, when Kidd's attorney calls an urgent meeting of the beneficiaries to Kidd's estate.
However, in order to be eligible for a share in the fortune, each of the participants must agree to an unusual proposal; one carefully designed to either enrich, or ensnare, the Captain's killer!

This Murder Mystery game was fantastic,
We played it on NYE 2011 and everyone had the best New year's party they had ever experienced.
We all dressed up in fancy dress which made it and set the scene at my house by decking out the room to make it look like an old pirates cavern!

Pirate mystery game 16 Oct 2011

Murder Mystery with a theme. Great game if you want to dress up over dinner and have your friends roar with laughter. The game even comes with a suggested menu to be served. Fun for all the family although I would allow children to be over 10 due the difficulty they may have following the plot. Adults will have fun trying to take on the different characters, believe me someone always tries to sound like Captain Jack Sparrow ! We hired costumes and really went to town but a casual get together would be just as fun.

This was my first murder mystery, and it was really great.
Everyone had a lot of fun dressing up and really getting into the different parts, especially with the pirate theme!
It didn't matter that we were playing with a mix of people who hadn't really met before, because it really encourages everyone to talk to each other and you have something to talk about.

What I didn't really like is that you don't get to know all the important information about your character before you start.
Without trying to give anything away the first I knew about a fairly major point about my character was when another player told everyone they knew all about it. As I've said, I've never really played a murder mystery before, but it makes it a little hard to add lib, or even work things out when your story keeps changing. You only find out if your the murderer or not fairly late into the game.
The minor reveals were all sort of a different difficulty to work out, some were pretty obvious and quite a few were a bit harder (well at least I didn't get them), and likewise I believe the murderer can be worked out if you're paying attention but it's not obvious.

The game suggested it worked well played between each course of a three course meal (which it did) and contains quite a lot of innuendo's (Along the lines of 'why Tia, those are some pretty big jugs you've got there, would you like a hand with them?' sort of thing) but nothing really bad or anything. It's written for 4/5 guys and 4/5 girls.

Overall I would recommend this as a great idea for a party, we had a lot of laughs and I would definitely do one of these again.
