Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Ace Combat: The Belkan War is the latest chapter in the acclaimed Ace Combat franchise on PlayStation 2, widely considered the definitive arcade-style aerial combat series. Serving as a prequel to the previous PlayStation 2 release, The Belkan War will answer questions surrounding the dramatic conflict fought in Ace Combat: Squadron Leader. A whole host of new game features have also been introduced, to provide an even more exciting and immersive dog fighting experience for rookie Ace Combat pilots and seasoned aces alike. Contest varied missions as you battle invading forces and the fate of Ustio and its people hangs in the balance.

With a choice of more than 30 licensed aircraft you have the opportunity to fly the world's most elite modern fighters and experience the thrill of dog fighting. Waiting to face you is a range of enemy squadrons, each led by rival ace pilots with distinctive personalities and tactics. As the plot evolves, these aces are interviewed retrospectively about your flying style and the impact you have on the course of the war. The result is compelling blend of action and drama that no potential ace could resist.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite games ever. 22 Mar 2007
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This is one of the best games I have ever played. I loved the previous two, and I was expecting a similar performance from this one, and I was not disappointed. The graphics are brilliant, they really do make it worth playing. The music is amazing, some of the best I have heard in a game. The story is brilliant, a really gripping plot that really makes u want to play on. The enemy ace squadrons are brilliant, and as each one fights in a different way (the tactics are the same as used by the corresponding aircraft in real life) each time you play will be differant. The multiplayer is quite frankly amazing. And the unlockable planes are sooo worth it. Overall, this is one of my favorite games ever. I love playing it over and over again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Game, But too short 25 Jan 2007
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Amazing game, cant-put-it-down storyline, many aircrafts & weapons, Exciting Missions, Cool idea of enemy squadrons with names, Mercenary Gauage gives more interest.

One downside - Very, Very Short, you can retry the story with the new planes & weapons that are unlockable, and you can change the mercenary gauge between - Soldier, Mecernary and Knight which gives a little change in the missions. But, the missions are still overall the same and once you have found out the story line, the game just isnt as good.

The game is really fun to play splitscreen with someone.

Overall - Amazing game with gripping storyline, but too short

3.0 out of 5 stars More of the same but that's OK by me 21 Sep 2006
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Decent console flight/combat sims are a rarity but somehow the Ace Combat series has managed to produce the best example for both the PSOne and PS2. It's done that by carefully treading the line between arcade style handling and more serious sim better than any of its rival alternatives. It's a formula which works and so, as expected, Ace Combat (Zero): The Belkan War sticks rigidly to this trusted template. Like the previous games on the PS2: AC4 and AC5, it shamelesly borrows missions from it's own back catalogue but, even for those who realise it, still makes them different enough to be entertaining, So what has changed from it's immediate predecessor AC5? The wingmen feature has been toned down, thankfully, with much less of the fatuous chit-chat that almost ruined whole sections of the game. You still issue commands in the same simple way although the wingman's usefulness in most missions remains debatable. But it's something that adds interest to the gameplay and a real sense that you're not alone during the combat. Other than that very little has altered. For a few missions you can refuel/rearm/change weapons, a return to that popular feature from AC4. But apart from a few tweeks to the presentation of the menus and some minor but interesting additions to the rewards/unlockables for good performance, it's all very familar stuff. The only thing veterans will notice of any significance is that on Normal difficulty it has, at last, become dangerous. AC has always been too easy for most UK gamers' taste on the default setting. In this game you are going to get shot down if you fly too casually. Beginners need not worry as there are easier settings and a novice controller set up too. What's wrong with AC: The Belkan War? 4.0 out of 5 stars its just soooo short!!! 29 Nov 2007
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
i love this game series, and was so excited when i heard they where bringing a prequel to my fave, and it was great when i first started to play it but the story wasnt as good as squadron leader, and has berly over half the amout of missions, making it a very short game, the graphics are more detailed, and theres a couple of new planes, but other than that, iam prettty dissapointed:(
i hope the next is a bit longer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ace! 10 Aug 2007
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
The Ace Combat series, like all, has had its ups and downs but i would say that this is definitely on the up end of the scale.

The only reason i dropped it a star is the slightly weird AI that seems to like missiles too much and really doesn't manouevre out of the way at all. However, when you do get ganged up on, the AI does improve and give you a run for your money.

The missions are as varied as you can expect (fly around in a funky jet shooting the crapiola out of everything that moves wrong), and i really do like the constant radio chatter. Gives things more of a sense of realism.

The 2player mode is really cool. Soon as i got it, a mate and i played it and neither of us have played this ace combat before so roughly the same standard, and it lasted a good while before we got bored. Several different "modes" for 2p, including coop and vs.

Overall, if you like flying and shooting, this is THE game for you and ps2!

4.0 out of 5 stars a truly fantastic game 17 Jun 2007

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Ace combat Belkan War provides yet another terrific sequel to the series delivering great graphics and remarkable game play. This time the player is sent back in time to take up the role of a fighter pilot in the Belkan war. It has many fantastic airplanes to choose from as well as taking the player through diverse and superb scenery. It provides non-stop action and adventure for any fighter plane lover. That is until you complete the few missions and find out you really wish the creators had put more missions on the game. Apart from that, a fantastic game with some great missions. I would thoroughly recommend this game to anyone who fancies a bit of fun!
